I think I did a thread like this a while back. And I'm doing it again.
Here's the place to talk about the original SNL.
I've been watching my DVDs lately and have become a fan of The Blues Brothers! I watched their appearances, then their portion of the special "The Things We Did Last Summer." I even went out and bought the movie (which I had never seen before).
A few of my favorite sketches include:
(kind of a sad one), Rick Nelson and Bill Murray are barbers. They work in a mall which is losing business, due to a new mall opening up. The sketch is just them talking to other mall employees about their bad business.
^The same episode, Rick Nelson is trying to get home in this black and white sketch, but finds himself in "Leave it to Beaver", "Father Knows Best", "The Danny Thomas Show" and "I Love Lucy."
The sketch with Madeline Khan as a woman who hires Detective John Belushi to find her husband. And as they talk about the case, they're singing the song 'I Will Follow Him.'
Also, the Jack Burns sketch where he messes up and the cast is mad at him.
Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray as The Mercy Killers. "I just hope that someday, someone writes a song about us." lol
I tend to like the simple sketches like that, lol.
Oddly enough, I'm not a big fan of Weekend Update.
I love Gilda Radner and Bill Murray as the Nerds. They were great.
When it comes to Chevy Chase versus Bill Murray, Murray wins hands down. In my book anyways. Although I liked Chevy, it's just that he's up against Bill Murray.
As a kid, when I'd watch this on Nick at Nite, and they also aired SCTV, I enjoyed the fact that SNL had Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, while SCTV had Rick Moranis and (sometimes) Harold Ramis. That's three Ghostbusters and Louis Tully!
Come on Universal, bring on Season Five! I want to complete my original SNL collection!
