American Idol has a new farewell theme: Idol season 4 winner Carrie Underwood’s version of Mötley Crüe’s “Home Sweet Home.”

The song was recorded especially for the show and follows previous goodbye tunes including Daughtry’s “Home,” Ruben Studdard’s version of “Celebrate Me Home” and Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day.”

Underwood’s take on the tune will debut on Wednesday’’s elimination show and will be available for download on iTunes through March 16 and at retailers thereafter.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Humane Society of the United States, a favorite charity of committed vegetarian Underwood, who said in a press release, “I’ve always loved this song, and besides being very fitting for Idol, to me, the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes.” – Eileen Finan

I just bought the song off iTunes and it sounds pretty good. But I don't think Home Sweet Home is a good send off song for the contestants.

I'd be curious to hear her version. I think it'll be good. The fact that some of the proceeds will be going to the Humane Society of the US is also aces in my book!!:clap :yippee:

I really love Carrie Underwood. :) I'm so glad she's getting the song for this year's eliminations, because I think she has a great singing voice.

IMHO, I think Jordin Spark's "Permanent Monday" would have been a better choice.
