The Bee Gees' first public performance occurred in late December 1957 (estimated to be 28th December 1957) at the Gaumont cinema when they were children living in Manchester. Barry was 11 and Robin and Maurice had turned 8 on 22nd December. They had intended to mime to the album (it has been guessed that the album may have been the Everly Brothers' Wake Up Little Susie) but on the way to the cinema Maurice dropped it and it broke so they had to sing for real.

It is more likely that Americans will recycle than vote.

In the U.S. alone, 18 billion diapers are thrown out a year.

Plastic bags are easier to recycle and require less energy to produce than paper bags.

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a television for three hours.

In 1971, Oregon became the first state to pass a bottle bill designed to increase recycling and decrease litter by giving consumers a financial incentive to recycle. Under the bottle bill law, consumers can receive money for recycling soft drink and beer containers rather than throwing them out.

Over 70% of e-waste ends up in China, where much of it is recycled in family-run workshops. Their methods of recycling are often rudimentary and can create serious environmental contaminants and health risks. (CSI:NY just did an episode about that)

Cigarette butts and filters take 12 years to biodegrade. An aluminum can takes between 200 to 500 years to biodegrade. Plastic diapers and sanitary pads take between 500-800 years. Styrofoam takes more than 5,000 years. And it would take a glass bottle 1 million years to biodegrade.

Humans smell “in stereo.” Scent signals from each nostril travel to different regions in the brain. This may help a person determine the direction the odor is coming from.

Humans produce about 10,000 gallons of saliva in a lifetime. Saliva is required for taste—until food is dissolved by saliva, we cannot taste it.

Hearing is one of the less acute senses in humans, compared to the many other animals which can detect sound at much higher and lower frequency than humans can.

Insects such as termites and ants provide 10% of the protein consumed worldwide. Where insects are an integral part of a diet, they contribute as much as 40% of protein.

In the United States, it is estimated that every adult unconsciously consumes one pound of insects each year due to garden produce, poor restaurant and home hygiene, and commercial foods for which the USDA allows a certain amount of insect fragments. Each year in the United States, there are approximately six million pregnancies. This means that at any one time, about 4% of women in the U.S. are pregnant.

About 3% of all pregnant women will give birth to twins. This rate is an increase of nearly 60% since the early 1980s. However, 17% of pregnant women over 45 will give birth to twins.

Nigeria has the highest twinning rate in the world at around 4.5%. Some experts attribute this number to the large consumption of yams in Nigeria.

The average size of a full-term baby in the U.S. is 8 pounds. This is an increase from an average size of 6 pounds 30 years ago.

The largest surviving baby ever born weighed 14 pounds, 13 ounces and was nearly 23 inches in length.

According to a Time Magazine article published in 1945, the longest pregnancy on record is 375 days (as opposed to the usual 280 days). Amazingly, the delivered baby was only 6 pounds, 15 ounces.

Worldwide, there are currently three sets of surviving septuplets: one in Iowa, U.S.; one in Washington, D.C., U.S.; and one in Saudi Arabia.

Real-life murderer Ed Gein was the inspiration for three fictional murderers in the horror genre:

Norman Bates from Psycho - The part about him being devoted to his deceased mother and keeping everything of hers in the same condition. The cross-dressing as well.

Leatherface of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Leatherface was a grave robber, cannibal, cross-dresser, and made things out of human body parts like Gein did. Leatherface also wore a mask made out of human skin.

Buffalo Bill (Jame Gumb) from The Silence of the Lambs - The idea of wanting to be the opposite sex and as a result Buffalo Bill was making a full human skin suit out of women. Gein wore human skin also.

When McLean Stevenson got the role of Col. Blake on "MASH" they asked him if he had ever read the book or seen the movie. He hadn't done either so they told him to see the movie to get a feel for the character. This was 1971 and the movie was still playing (it came out in 1970) but only at a small handful of theaters. So he looked in the paper and finally found one, about a half hour away. He drove to it, went up and bought his ticket, went in just before the lights went down and the movie started. Then the curtain opened, it started-and the entire thing was in spanish!!

The origin of the phrase "Say Uncle".

As time went on many families were picking up on the fact that they had a "perverted uncle" who never married and liked being around children. As a result, parents were cautious about said person being around their kids at family functions.

Children were given a warning to "Cry Uncle!" when the said pervert got too close for comfort to the kids and an adult would rush to the childrens' aide.

Eventually it made its way into meaning a sign of surrender among people; like when someone plays the game "Mercy" they would say the word "Uncle" when they give up.

Also, they first considered W.C. Fields for the wizard.

The producers, Mervyn LeRoy and Arthur Freed always wanted Judy Garland for the role of Dorothy - in fact, Arthur Freed obtained the rights to the book and originally began crafting the film with Judy in mind. However, the studio insisted that they test Shirley Temple for the role, since she was the #1 star at the time and had expressed interest in the part. She did test, but her singing was nowhere near as good as Judy's, and Fox thought they could compete by putting Shirley in "The Blue Bird" the same year. :)

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was the first of fourteen books written by L. Frank Baum about the land of Oz. He was in the midst of writing a fifteenth book when he died. The 1939 film The Wizard of Oz is not very faithful to the original story. For example, the land was not a dream, but an actual alternate world, where Dorothy, her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry eventually move to.

Lewis Carroll wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland for Alice Liddell, who was the daughter of a friend of his. It was inspired by an afternoon picnic in which the daughters encountered a white rabbit.

Hitler, who is perceived by many to be one of the most evil people to have ever lived on the planet, led an interesting life. Here are interesting facts about him:

- Hitler was blurry eyed when greeting his generals because he stayed up all night and rarely crawled into bed before dawn.

- Hitler's diet was vegetarian; he ate mainly sweet rolls, pastries, and buttered vegetables. As a result of this he was known to pass gas all of the time from both ends.

- Also due to his diet, which caused him to sweat a lot, Hitler's body odor was terrible. He was known to shower two or three times a day and changed his uniform as well; and he still smelled.

- Hitler was a caffeine addict. He drank thick black Viennese coffee and when he would get wired from it he would go into rants with whoever was unfortunate to be around him at the time and talk about mainly politics, art, and music.

- Hitler thought he was an expert on every topic in the world. At parties when he did not like the music that was playing he would hum his own improvised tunes which how he thought would "make it better".

- Hitler was known to be very kind and gracious towards his secretaries; as well has his dogs.

- Hitler was very fond of American Westerns along with German marital farces/comedies.

He also was very fidgety and anxious which added to the reasons why he sweated a lot.

That's understandable, I was referring to the body odor caused by sweating.

The lack of control he had over his gas caused by his diet stunk up his heavy uniform.

I don't believe the sweat necessarily came from the diet, but the diet caused the gas and the fact that he was very nervous caused him to sweat all the time. His sugar attriubuted to his nervousness so all of this combined caused him to smell.

The diet itself wouldn't cause the excessive sweating nor would it contribute toward the body odor from the sweating but it would cause the gas problem.

The state of Nevada, as of now, is the only US state where brothels are allowed to operate legally.

The standard going rate for most of them is $100.00

You can be expected to pay about $300.00 every half-hour for the "services".

Paying for group activites or for a "well-known person" can go up to $2,500 an hour.

There are no direct descendants of Abraham Lincoln.

Robert Todd Lincoln, the only son of Abraham and Marry Todd Lincoln to reach adulthood and marry, had three children: Mary, Abraham and Jessie. Mary's only child, Lincoln Isham, had no children. Abraham lived from 1873-1890 and had no children. Jessie had two children, Mary Beckwith and Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, neither of which had any children.

Last week, I watched an HBO Original mini-series about his father, John Adams. He was portrayed by Paul Giamatti. Long, but worth it. He was an interesting man. It was fantastic seeing how the birth of our nation took place. It's on DVD. I got it through Netflix.

Actually, he's not, I'm not sure who was the first, but, three of the Wing Commander games predate 1998 and featured actors like Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, John Rhys-Davies, Josh Lucas.
'Privateer 2' came out in '96, and had Christopher Walken, John Hurt, Clive Owen, David Warner, Jürgen Prochnow.
'Night Trap' for the Sega CD came out in '92 and had Dana Plato.
These were actual live-action performances in the games.

Yes, I'm aware of that.

Bruce however was the first to have his likeness and body moments made for the digital images of a video game.
They based the character of the game off of Bruce's image and movements.
