In Family Ties: The Fifth Season, Steven (Michael Gross) and Elyse Keaton (Meredith Baxter Birney) still embody the spirit of the 1960s, while supporting their kids - Alex (Emmy winner Michael J. Fox), Mallory (Justine Bateman), Jennifer (Tina Yothers) and young son Andrew (Brian Bonsall) - in the more conservative 1980s. This season, the Keaton parents have learned to accept their older children, but find it hard to accept the fact that they are practically grown up, with lives of their own: Alex is a junior in college and has a bank job; Jennifer fronts an all-girl rock band; and Mallory has left the mall behind for college, where she studies - what else? - fashion! But whatever era they suppport, the Keatons will always support each other - on Family Ties!

Its very strange about the holdover episodes from previous seasons.

I just watched "The big Fix" My only guess is that it featured two guest stars so prominently. None of the kids have much to do. Networks don't like episodes like that. Wanting to showcase the regular cast as much as possible. But that is a just a guess.

I was watching my season 5 DVD's earlier and I found a mistake in the closing credits of the episode entitled "Beauty And The Bank". In this episode Melinda Culea guest stars as a character named Rebecca Ryan. The nameplate on her office door says R. Ryan. She even has a line where Alex has been calling her Ms. Ryan and she says "please, call me Rebecca". But in the closing credits it says Melinda Culea as Debra Ryan.

I'm still waiting to see this - I put a hold on it at the library.

If you want to see this mistake for yourself "Beauty And The Bank" is the fourth episode on Disc 1.

I finally got it from the library last night and am watching Disc 1 right now. It's a lot of fun. :D
