Does anyone use natural remedies for cures? (These items maybe from your kitchen cabinet.)

For Me, I Use:

* Sunburns- When it gets ready to heal, it itches severely. I use vinegar and it helps so much.

* Scabs- I use a bread potus. I use a piece of bread soaked with milk and put it over the soar. It clears up really well.

* Soar Throat- I gargle with salt water. I also drink tons of orange juice.

What home remedy cures do you use?

Witch Hazel for bruises and sprains - it really works!!

Plain yogurt as a weekly facial - slather it on for 10 - 15 minutes and rinse. Just as good as high end spa facials!!

Skin Dryness: Just before you jump out of the shower, put baby oil on over your whole body (avoid the face). Give yourself a quick rinse and then pat dry. Works in the winter to avoid itchy, dry skin and in the summer will keep your tan looking great much longer!

For a stomachache, just drink something and it will be soothed.

When I get a stomachache from eating a meal, I usually drink water, juice, or chocolate milk.

It can work very well.

For a dry cough brought on by allergies, 1 tablespoon of honey at night really suppressed the constant hacking I had.

Once I took Echinacea/Goldenseal combination, and I can't prove it was that, but my bronchitis got about 90% better after a couple of days, and shortly after that, completely better. Normally, I'd need to go to the doctor for a prescription cough medicine and an antibiotic like erythromicin to finally cure bronchitis.

^ Get this one too - to stop a dry, hacking cough (works best at night for the obvious reasons but will at any time), slather Vick's Vapo-Rub on the bottoms of both feet. You can also use any generic brand (it's cheaper).

Believe it or not, it really works to cut down or even stop the cough for a while! I use it because right now with some of the medications I'm on, I can't use a cough supressant.

My favorite home remedy is one teaspoon of vinegar for heartburn. I suffered terribly for years and took every medication known to man both prescription and OTC and they helped but only temporary which is usually the case with most meds. I found out about the vinegar four years ago while doing some late-night channel surfing. I came across Kevin Trudeau's infomercial for the book Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About and he mentioned the vinegar cure. I thought why not? I've got a bottle of it in the cabinet. I took one teaspoon and didn't think it would work but it did. In fact, it worked so well that I was able to cease using all medications and in four years I've only had 2 very minor recurrences of heartburn. If anyone has a problem with severe heartburn then I suggest trying it because it works better than Nexium, Pepcid, Prilosec, Tums, Etc.....

For sunburns, I use vitamin E oil.

Soar Throat- I gargle with salt water. I also drink tons of orange juice.

Orange juice for a sore throat? OJ contains citric acid; I don't know if I would want to drink that.
I use honey for a sore throat and as you said, gargle with salt water.

How about Chapped lips?

It's been a bit cold and dry in San Diego. I wish it wasn't cold when I leave the house then it gets a bit warm in the afternoon.

Best thing is still Chapstick, but if you don't have any, you can use Vasoline (just don't lick your lips - it's gross!) or keep a small bottle on any kind of hand lotion with you and keep putting it on frequently. It'll keep your lips moistened and protected.

Also - the vinegar trick works for the hiccups - a tablespoon or two will get rid of them. My problem is that I can never swallow the vinegar! I keep thinking it'll make me sick to my stomach. lol

I know it might sound disgusting but I hear that urine is used as healing for some people. That it works well against bruises and cuts on the skin.

What kind of vinegar? My husband takes prescription Prevacid for acid reflux.

A good home remedy for wax build-up in your ears is to put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in your ears, keeping your head tilted to the side for a few minutes. It sizzles away the wax. Do this for three nights in a row. I actually hear better after I do it, a couple of times a year.

I never knew that. I know it'll sooth the sting of jellyfish, etc., but didn't know it worked on earaches.

This opens up a whole new set 'o questions tho.....who.....and how is their AIM?! ;)

Ben & Jerry's works wonders for the blues, as does Sarah Lee, Domino's, Pepperidge Farm and many others. :D

Any advice on how to shake a cold? I've been coughing and sneezing since the weekend and already missed two days of work. I've been taking Robitussin, relaxing, and drinking lots of fluids, but so far, I'm not feeling better.

Try Zicam. I've had good luck with that.
