View Full Version : Things That Are Over Priced
jasonbigley 02-24-2009, 05:41 PM * Those phone sex lines that charge $5 per minute. For that price, I would rather be aroused by a porno flick for the same price.
* Michelle Obama's gloves that were $98. Im sorry, but no gloves are worth that. I would go to Dollar General and get a 3 pack for $2.
* Those $7,000 gowns that actresses buy. For that price, I would be looking for gold in that dress. I would stick to buying my clothes at the Salvation Army Thrift Store or WalMart.
* Post Office prices are way to high. They say they are going broke? They are full of bologna.
* Carnival prices where they charge you like $5 for a slice of pizza. I bought a glass of soda at a carnival like 2 years ago and it was $2. It was a small cup and the soda was watered down. RIP OFF!
dawsongirl 02-24-2009, 10:05 PM Anything associated with a cell phone.
Karen64 02-24-2009, 10:35 PM Movie theater popcorn, or any of their snacks!
Starbucks coffee, or any fancy coffee from those kind of coffee shops.
Antique shops around here (ours just has a lot of junk anymore...(like happy meal toys that are only from last year for $5 apiece, or crappy plastic knick knacks that look like they cost $1 from the Dollar Tree & they want $20 for it!)
OH Nuts! 02-25-2009, 12:45 AM Anything assoc. with a movie theatre - esp. the refreshments- rip off city!
Starbuck's = fancy schmancy rip off
Duane Reade, a chain store in my city. My nickname for them is Duane Greed bec. their prices are higher than everyone else's
Gristedes, big rip off supermarket chain in NYC.

Antique shops are a joke, If they have it it's worth a fortune but it's not worth crap if you try to sell it to them. If that so-called antique store thinks anyone is stupid enough to pay 5 bucks for a single happy meal toy then tell them that I have nearly 500 of them that I'll take $2.50 each for and they can double their money.
browneyes106 02-25-2009, 01:08 AM Many college bookstores around the country are known for selling overpriced textbooks.

ekkostar 02-25-2009, 08:59 AM DVDs are insanely overpriced now after being cheap for such a long time. $26 for a new release now because of the stupid useless "digital copy"? Screw that noise.

Janice 02-25-2009, 11:49 PM Restaurant food, including take-out. Veterinarian services, groceries, cable, car insurance, car repairs, pretty much everything these days.
Max Whittaker 02-26-2009, 02:43 AM A weeks worth of groceries used to cost $1.78 one hundred years ago. Wish I had my salary and that cost of living.
Myles 02-26-2009, 04:05 PM Health care is ridiculously overpriced.
Chocoholic 02-26-2009, 07:33 PM I agree with all of the above. I also have to add Girl Scout cookies and chocolates. $4.50 for a tiny box of cookies  I suppose it's for a good cause. I just wish the box included a few more Thin Mints.

I totally agree. The only reason I buy girl scout cookies is because I have young cousins who are girl scouts and I do want to support them. I wish the boxes were bigger.
dakert 02-27-2009, 02:46 PM Movie Theatre Prices are too high
I wanted a hamburger at Denny's last night and they were all about $8.00 :-(
PunkyP0WER 02-27-2009, 03:02 PM this sounds stupid but...vending machines. i don't eat out of them anymore anyway since i'm cutting down on junk food but when i was working part time as a guard at a factory before the holidays i'd go to their break room and the the food in the machines were sky high. you needed MORE than a dollar for almost every item.
Chocoholic 02-27-2009, 03:49 PM ^ And you know you can buy the exact same item at the grocery store for less than $.50 What a rip-off!

EXACTLY!! ^^^
Chocoholic 02-27-2009, 04:08 PM Another thing that is definitely overpriced is hardcover books. I'm not shelling out $25+ for something I'm only going to read once. I either wait for the paperback edition (Even those are getting pricey.) or I look for it at the library.

I have noticed the prices of paperbacks are going up. A few days I ago I was at a bookstore at my local mall and noticed paperbacks that were $15 or little more.
PunkyP0WER 02-28-2009, 02:04 AM thats why i buy my books from ebay/half.com or amazon marketplace. i almost always get them for $1 plus $3 media mail which is cheap to me.
MickeyMac 02-28-2009, 01:49 PM Yeah books are getting expensive too. Some books you can check out from the library, but some books you gotta own. Just wish they were more affordable.
