I know the GOLDEN GIRLS is full of inconsistencies from episode to episode (never mind season to season! ), but exactly how old is Sophia? She talks about her age all the time, but it seems that as the years went on she either stayed the same age or got younger.

I think in the first season, the first few episodes, she says she's 84. That would make her born in 1901. Then later on in the series I believ she's 82. Then back up to 84 a few years later...

Whenever she told a story about growing up in Sicily, she even gives a year and how old she was...and it doesn't match up to what she should be.

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to how old she is supposed to be?

Did any of the other characters reveal their ages? (I think Dorothy did once).

I never noticed, but its just another example of lack of continuity!

I thought in season 1 she was 80 or 81 years old. In the episode where they were robbed and Rose shot Blanche's vase, Sophia said something like "I managed to live 80 81 years, one night I belch, Stable Mable will blow my head off".

In "A Visit From Cousin Sven", Dorothy mentions that Sophia is 81 (the episode was from 1987), but I think her age jumped around quite a bit throughout the show's run.

Exactly - I kept hearing all different ages though the one I heard the most was 84 (though I think the oldest was 86). Then when she would say something like... "Picture it...Sicily 1921, a young girl of 18..." it didn't add up when you did "the math".
