So, the episode in which he moves in with his brother temporarily and is shown ironing his own shirt and subsequently fainting repeatedly at the site of his own blood is IMO a hole in the plot.

I do not remember that episode. What season did it take place in? What caused Niles to bleed in the first place? Did he ever get over his fear?
