I was just loling at the Tina Fey and Steve Martin bit. dakert 02-22-2009, 10:05 PM I havent seen any of the movies so I am not interested in this years Oscars HuntingtonM15 02-22-2009, 10:05 PM Ugh about Penelope winning. I was really hoping for an upset in that category. Janice 02-22-2009, 10:05 PM Slumdog Millionaire. Great movie. I'm glad it won. Janice 02-22-2009, 10:07 PM I missed the red carpet. Who had the best and worst gowns? Let's gossip, lol. :gossip Janice 02-22-2009, 11:21 PM Heath Ledger. Not a dry eye in the house. Also, glad to see the documentary, Man On Wire, win. Just watched it the other night. It's very good. A guy walked on a tightrope between the Twin Towers back in 1974. Just the thought makes me want to faint. It was hard to watch it. Brian Damage 02-22-2009, 11:22 PM Heath Ledger winning for his role as the Joker....YES! Brian Damage 02-22-2009, 11:23 PM Ugh about Penelope winning. I was really hoping for an upset in that category. The Academy LOVES Woody Allen, even though his movies stink. Brian Damage 02-22-2009, 11:25 PM Heath Ledger. Not a dry eye in the house. Not to get political on this thread, but I really wanted to punch Bill Maher in the throat. lol HuntingtonM15 02-22-2009, 11:25 PM The Academy LOVES Woody Allen, even though his movies stink. Yeah, his movies have also given Diane Keaton, Dianne Wiest, and Mira Sorvino Oscars. catlover79 02-22-2009, 11:30 PM I missed the red carpet. Who had the best and worst gowns? Let's gossip, lol. :gossip Yeah, were Joan and Melissa Rivers there?? Brian Damage 02-22-2009, 11:35 PM Yeah, were Joan and Melissa Rivers there?? No, they were canned years ago, and justifiably so. catlover79 02-22-2009, 11:37 PM No, they were canned years ago, and justifiably so. Thought so. Thanks. Janice 02-23-2009, 12:16 AM The "In Memoriam" always gets to me. *Pleasant Tomorrow* 02-23-2009, 12:18 AM The "In Memoriam" always gets to me. Same. :( Brian Damage 02-23-2009, 12:19 AM I forgot some of the stars that died this year. :rip: Cactus Jack 02-23-2009, 12:35 AM Yeah I wasnt sure if theyd show anything of Bernie Mac's ( Guees Who anyone?), but Im glad they did;\ Who was the guy they showed that had the main logo of Charlie's Angels and Spider Man 2 or 3 next to him? Cactus Jack 02-23-2009, 12:38 AM Oh and George Carlin was snubbed *Pleasant Tomorrow* 02-23-2009, 12:53 AM ha Sean Penn just pwned the people who voted for the Prop 8 ****. I don't care much for him, but I enjoyed what little of that speech I payed attention to. HuntingtonM15 02-23-2009, 01:04 AM The only thing I was disappointed in was that there were no real upsets. There's usually at least one big surprise each year. Sean Penn doesn't really count, since both he and Mickey were considered front runners. Mysty Eyes 02-23-2009, 01:19 AM I used to watch the Oscars every year, even though I rarely have seen many or any of the films. I stopped watching them regularly once they switched the show to Sundays (it used to be on Monday). I decided to watch it this year, on a whim... :sleep2: :sleep2: :sleep2: Oh my gawd, I don't think that I have ever seen such a boring awards show. There were very few memorable moments. Heath Ledger winning was the top emotionally. And I'm glad Sean Penn won; he is a very good actor. Not sure I liked Hugh Jackman as host and I had problems reading the names during the In Memoriam part of the show. DLevine2 02-23-2009, 08:42 AM I missed the preview of "The Proposal" with Sandra Bullock which Betty White was going to be in. JamesG 02-23-2009, 08:43 AM Another main Oscar highlight was when Sean Penn decided to go political and address the Propositon 8 ban on gay marriage during his acceptance speech for Milk. "For those who saw the signs of hatred as our cars drove in tonight, I think that it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren's eyes if they continue that way of support. We've got to have equal rights for everyone." TripperFan 02-23-2009, 03:07 PM Thought so. Thanks. I was flipping channels and didn't recognize ANY of the ones interviewing on the Red Carpet! They ask the STUPIDEST questions. I'd rather watch it with the sound down. Glad to see Heath get it of course, and was also happy about Slumdog. It went from being a dream in a movie to a dream in real life for those kids. I'll be their heads were ready to explode coming from the slums of Mumbai to the Oscar red carpet!! Since I had a guest over and was distracted from some of the things (In Memoriam which always gets to me too) so I'll probably rewatch it on the recording - FF thru commercials and pick up the things I missed but wanted to see. I don't know how much strength it took for Heath's family to come out and accept the award looking at all his friends and coworkers out in the audience. Everyone looked like they were ready to burst into tears. That would have been harder than speaking at his funeral I would imagine. HuntingtonM15 02-23-2009, 05:04 PM Pictures of the acting winners. It's sad seeing the pictures of the three of them since Heath isn't there. They always take pictures of the four acting winners together. Penelope probably should have considered doing her hair, since it was the Oscars and all. TripperFan 02-23-2009, 05:32 PM Another main Oscar highlight was when Sean Penn decided to go political and address the Propositon 8 ban on gay marriage during his acceptance speech for Milk. We've got to have equal rights for everyone." I'm not sure if he normally would have, but they had those a$$holes out there again from some Baptist church protesting the film. Shame these people have nothing better to do on a Sunday yet, than get out and poke their noses in where they don't belong. For once, I'm glad he spoke out. 80sTrivia 02-23-2009, 07:20 PM So glad Kate Winslet finally won her Oscar! :clap Janice 02-23-2009, 11:40 PM Thanks for those fantastic pictures, Michael. Yes, heartbreaking about Heath. Thanks for the list, Tara. :) catlover79 02-24-2009, 12:51 AM So glad Kate Winslet finally won her Oscar! :clap This was what, her 5th or 6th nomination? She was previously nominated for Sense & Sensibility, Titanic, Iris, of course, The Reader and I forgot the other ones. Good for her. Plus, she looked terrific! Marvo301 02-24-2009, 01:07 AM I believe it was her sixth nomination. That puts her nine nominations and one Oscar behind Meryl Streep. Congratulations Kate! Brad Russ 02-25-2009, 07:07 AM I was sooooo happy to see Kate Winslet win!!! She is one of my favorite actresses, and she definitely deserved it. I thought she was funny when she asked her dad to whistle. I was disappointed however to see Wall-E beat Kung Fu Panda. I mean, it was pretty good, but I thought Kung Fu Panda was much better!! |
