View Full Version : "Wizard" Pinball Machine Bought
Fleet 02-21-2009, 09:18 PM That's right. Yesterday I bought a "Wizard" pinball machine, built by Bally from 1975.
It was listed on ebay. Game was located in Burbank, about 13 miles from me. I was watching it on that site and asked the owner of the game if there were no bids, could I drive over and look at it. He agreed.
The auction ended with no bids, so I drove over yesterday to check it out. The owner and I played 3 games (I won 2 out of 3) and I paid for it. It was delivered to my house today.
It was a strange feeling playing a game I haven't played in about 30 years. This always was my favorite pinball game; even back in the '70s it was my favorite.
Here are some photos of it I took just after delivery..

Maybe there wasn't enough room on the backglass for Elton? :D
Or maybe he didn't give permission to use his likeness?

Me, too. That was my favorite summer destination back in the mid-to-late '70s... the arcade!
I forgot to mention that 10,005 "Wizard" pinball machines were built.

At least he had his own pinball machine.

Which one of those is your favorite? Or, can you choose a favorite?
Yes, it is nice owning a few pinball machines. Another one I like a lot is "Bow & Arrow."

Of the 3, The Kiss machine is my favorite. I got it for $500 from an arcade/jukebox distributor. The Star Trek was only $50 but it was a fixer-upper. The Gorgar I bought for $100 at an estate sale. You lucked up getting that Wizard so close to home, I'd hate to pay shipping to the east coast for that.
Although I don't own one, This is without a doubt the best machine I've played and I'd say that if I'd never laid eyes on the show.

PZelda 02-22-2009, 04:03 AM ARGH CHARLES I LITERALLY SCREAMED AT "KARATE CHAMP" OMG. There was this arcade I'd go to while growing up with that game, and I loved how cheesy it was. A friend who also loved KC and I came up with a funny song for it, but I've forgotten it now. I loved it when the judge would say "JUDGE" after every round. We called the karate fighters Red and White. we also both thought it was funny as **** that getting hit by a twig in the bonus round was fatal.

Yes, the seller of my machine almost sold it to someone else but he didn't want to pay the $300+ shipping charge.
The one I just bought can still be seen on ebay. Item number is: 320339210628.
Wow, that was a good buy you got on the Kiss machine. I don't think I've played that one.
As for the Twilight Zone machine, I have wondered how that plays. I haven't played that either. I pretty much stopped playing pinball after the late-'70s.
JamesG 02-22-2009, 05:34 AM Have you ever come across the Tales From The Crypt and The Addams Family pinball machines?

The local bowling alley had both the TZ and Addam's Family machines. I played the AF one a couple of times and thought it was a good one. I've never seen the Tales from the Crypt machine.

Janice 02-25-2009, 05:08 PM Great looking game, Tony. Congratulations! I'm curious, does it still take money, if you wanted it to?
Cactus Jack 02-25-2009, 05:31 PM Those are awesome!
TripperFan 02-25-2009, 06:33 PM I wish they'd bring these back again somewhere. Maybe a "flat" fee or something we could pay now but they sure were fun and addicting. I had seen the "Elton John" one, but none of the others (other than the KISS one on Gene Simmons, Family Jewels show). The Roger Daltry one and Twilight Zone ones are really cool! And that one looks to be in great shape.

Yes, it still has the original cash box inside. The seller said that you can start a game by operating a switch inside the machine but it's easier to just put a quarter in.
I do that. Open the door, put the quarter in and catch it as it comes out then use the same quarter over and over.

Me, too. It would be nice if there were an arcade which only had '60s-'80s pinball games. There are none I know of in my entire area (Los Angeles county).
