It's called tough love. Ritchie wanted Fonzie to learn to do things for himself instead of just laying on the couch feeling sorry for himself.

I think they suspected all along that Fonzie's blindness would be temporary and he would eventually regain his sight. So it wasn't necessary to send him to a school for the blind.

My favorite part of that episode was when Fonzie worked past the blindness to put the motorcycle back together.

I also liked the scene at the end where Potsie and Ralph came into the Cunningham home with pieces of the bike only to find Fonzie's sight totally restored. They couldn't run out of the house fast enough. :lol:
