I always did. With Cheers, I feel like I'm laughing at the characters while I feel like I'm laughing with the Wings gang. Both shows are classics, but I'll take Wings in a heartbeat.

I could not have expressed it any better myself. I know what you mean. I feel exactly as you do. :D

Wings hands down. At the time I really loved Cheers, but you didn't get to know all of those characters past the bar, which kept them a little superficial. In contrast, we saw every single one of these characters' homes, in some cases way more than once, and met other family members, so they were deeper/richer and seemed a tad more real. And the fact that all of the leads (which for me were the Joe/Brian/Helen characters) were there until the very end helped things a lot.

Well put.

Cheers had too many characters at at time, inculding recurring characters. I just didn't find them likable people. They were funny, but I wouldn't want to hang out with them. The Wings characters were so much more likable, even Roy.

I tend to not like shows that portray people I try to avoid in real life. Probably why I never fell in love with Seinfeld and Friends. Seinfeld was a funny show, I'll admit, but not one of the four main characters had any redeemable qualities.

Oh, Wings, absolutely.

I just could never get into Cheers, although somehow, I really got into watching Frasier. I know not exactly the same, but I always enjoyed when Lillith showed up. Also, the ep of Frasier when Shelley Long showed up was hilarious. Also, the one when Woody came to Seattle was good, too.

It's something I've been fighting with the last few years. Cheers was my all-timer for many years and still is...but something about Wings keeps nagging at me. Perhaps it's the smalltown feel, the more intimate set, younger characters. During Cheers heyday, everyone was middle-aged. Wings has a younger energy to it...but I enjoyed Cheers longer. I dunno, maybe I should join a support group.

Re: characters we'd avoid in real life...I have to say that those are some of my favorite characters. I would find Frasier Crane way too pompous, Dan Fielding (Night Court) too hateful, Helen Chappel too fiery, Alex Keaton too self-centered, etc. But that's why we laugh at them, and they become classics.

Oh, I love Wings over Cheers. Cheers is funny, but Wings is so hilarious and everyone in the cast is funny. I mean the cast on Cheers is funny too, but I can relate to Wings more in some ways. They are both great shows, but I will take Wings over Cheers.

In the Episode where Norm and Cliff show up, it's really easy to see how different the two shows are.

The Cheers guys are sort of harsh, and critical, while the Wings characters are more warm, and approachable.

I never really liked the fact that Norm took a shot at Lowell, after only meeting him once. It still boils me, lol.

overall, I prefer Wings to Cheers - even though they are both great shows.

^ I noticed that too in that episode and it bothered me a bit. I know it's just a TV show ;)

I thought "Cheers" was OK, especially when Diane and Coach were on the show. But I never became a loyal fan, and I never made a point of catching every episode. All of the characters always seemed "old" to me, for some reason. Also, I usually don't like the type of people who hang out in the same neighborhood bar every evening. I mean, I go to bars every once in a while but I've found that the "regular" customers are usually kind of strange.

So "Wings" gets my vote!

Oh definitely I prefer Wings to Cheers for all the reasons listed here. The Wings characters made me feel like they were my friends. Cheers while funny and at times interesting, couldn't hold my interest very long
