Anyone here like the episodes in season 5 that dealt with the Ingall's, Oleson's and Garvey's moving to Winoka? The episodes are:

As Long As We're Together (2 episodes)
The Winoka Warriars
The Man Inside
There's No Place Like Home (2 episodes)

I thought the move to Winoka was an interesting switch for the show. Of course, the three family's weren't happy in Winoka. The Ingall's were living in a hotel room and Charles was managing the hotel while Caroline was the cook there. The man that owned the hotel was such a grouch! Harriet (proving to Nels that she could earn money to send their kids to a private school) was working as a bar maid. I can't remember what the Garvey's were doing there, I think Mrs. Garvey was the school teacher, not sure what job Jonathan had. And, of course, this is where the Ingall's meet Albert. When the three families return to Walnut Grove, the town was in bad shape. Mr. Hansen also suffered a stroke. But everyone pulled together "walnut grove style" and got the town back into it's former glory.

Anyone else love these episodes?

I never understood why they all moved to begin with......I must always miss hearing the explanation!

I think, if I remember correctly, the whole town was going through a tough economic time, so they thought the move to Winoka would help them financially. The Ingalls also wanted to be closer to Mary. She was now living at the blind school.

These eps were fun. They were when I finally started watching LHoP (as my sisters & I called it then). Jonathan was hired by Standish (the grouchy owner of the saloon and most of the rest of the town) as a bouncer for his bar after Jonathan beat up the bar's then-bouncer in a fight started by the other guy. He was fired by Standish in the final 2-part ep of these after he tried to stop local man Toby Noe (guest star Ray Bolger) from gambling away his lottery winnings to Standish in poker. Standish also took away the fireworks that Noe had bought for the kids of the town for a celebration. I won't give away the final result there, in case someone hasn't seen that ep yet, but the three families decide to move back to Walnut Grove in the next ep.
