In the segment on Nyleen's presumed abduction, it is mentioned that her Uncle spotted two people at the scene who he later recognized on a "wanted" flyer and that the pair were wanted on kidnapping charges. Does anyone have any information on this particular case?

They never mentioned a name and it would be very hard to track it down just from the picture. I remember reading somewhere (can't remember where) speculation that the pictures resembled Franklin Delano Floyd and Sharon Marshall which was pretty interesting.

In searching about Nyleen's case online I found out a few interesting tidbits I thought I'd share with everyone. One poster wrote:

When I lived in Montana, an article appeared in the Helena Independent Record newspaper (approx. 1997) that a young woman had entered an out of state hospital to give birth. She didn't seem to know much about her personal history but thought perhaps her mother's name was Nyleen. They were wondering if this might have been Nyleen herself. The newspaper never confirmed or disclaimed whether it could have been Nyleen or not.

Also someone else talked about an unidentified Jane Doe found in Wisconsin which of course is where the letters were mailed from talking about Nyleen. I can see a resemblance between this picture and the pictures of Nyleen as a child.

Well then they should try some DNA from the family.
Egads, Arnold Oldschool, that link's picture is gruesome and scary! Looks like they photoshopped the face to be recognizable and did nothing to cover up the obvious decomposing flesh from the rest of her body laying on the slab. Ugh.

Okay, well get ready to be completely creeped out. Thanks to the wonders of photoshop, I was able to put a photo of Nyleen and the photo of this victim side by side. Then I made Nyleen's photo transparent, and was able to superimpose it over the face of the victim. The results are quite amazing.

http://i323.photobucket.com/albums/nn461/puma_rumor/sidebyside.jpg

Lining up the nose (realize the size has been adjusted), you can see the shape is identical. Now, this wouldn't be the same way that age progression is done, because the eyes are what stay in the same ratio.

http://i323.photobucket.com/albums/nn461/puma_rumor/nose.jpg

So, here are the eyes lined up, showing the lengthening and growth of the nose and mouth with age.

http://i323.photobucket.com/albums/nn461/puma_rumor/eyes.jpg

Creepy, no? Good lead, I'd say.

Wow, it's true that the two pictures match almost seemlessly.

And if you compare Jane Doe's face to Nyleen's mother in the segment, she does have some striking features resembling her mother, especially around the nose and the exterior of the eyes going downward...

She was 4 when she vanished from a family picnic in Montana back in about 1983.

Later, the family received a letter or letters from a man saying that he had Nyleen and was keeping her as a companion. He admitted to a sexual component to the relationship, but said that he was having her educated and they were travelling the world together.

I can't remember if he made phone calls or not. Anyway, somehow or other it was revealed that Nyleen was in Wisconsin. This Jane Doe was found dead in WI back in 1999 (I think) so there's where the suspected connection comes in.

He did make several phone calls to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, in which he referenced making trips with Nyleen to several part of the United States, Canada, and the UK.

Wow, that's a great potential match. I wish there was a real photograph with the same frontal view as the victim, comparison would be easier. The nose in the age progression photo looks odd.

I'm totally cursing the person that posted the side by side comparison of the girl and Nyleen WITHOUT posting a warning beforehand!!!!! :D

The unidentified girl in Racine has been a pet case of mine for a long time; I pray for her to be ID'd so badly. But sadly, her face gives me nightmares. I think that's one reason why I want her ID'd. To give her her humanity and respect back---if we could see who she was before hand maybe we would feel sadness and not such horror when looking at the photoshopped face......

A lot of people on Websleuths have mentioned a connection to Racine, WI Jane Doe and Nyleen---without me having to click back on page 1 of this thread (darn you person!) can someone tell me what makes people think it's possibly Nyleen?

Thanks!

In all honesty, I think I'd prefer a non-photoshopped version of the morgue picture. It is the wide open eyes that really freak me out.

I think people see a connection based on a similar facial structure. The picture on page 1 shows Nyleen's face superimposed over the Jane Doe's face, and things do seem to line up fairly well.

Personally though, I find it hard to really compare a picture of a little kid with one of an adult and try to determine if they match. Kids grow and change in lots of ways until adulthood.

Kamy, a little bit of why ppl think that there could be something to this Jane Doe being Nyleen: (copied from my page 1 comments)

Nyleen was 4 when she vanished from a family picnic in Montana back in about 1983.

Later, the family received a letter or letters from a man, mailed from Wisconsin, saying that he had Nyleen and was keeping her as a companion. He admitted to a sexual component to the relationship, but said that he was having her educated and they were travelling the world together.

Another poster mentioned that he made phone calls to the National Center for Missing Children regarding the fact that he had Nyleen with him.

This Jane Doe was found dead in WI back in 1999, and she is in the right age range to fit with Nyleen.

She has very similar features, imo. But it's got to be extremely difficult for authorities to look at a photo of a 4 year old and try to make a close enough connection with the photo of a deceased adult to justify DNA tests, file a request for an exumation, etc.

I know that when I look at a photo of my daughter at age 4, and then look at her now, at nearly 20 years old, the only things that are really similar are her thick dark hair and large eyes. Her pointy chin is gone, her small baby smile has been replace with a big wide grin. It would be very hard to identify the two as the same person by looking at a snapshot at age 4 and then another at age 20, and I'm her mother.

My first impression when I saw Jane Doe's picture was that she may have close black ancestry. Not a parent, but possibly a grand parent or great grandparent. When looking at Nyleen's photo, I think she looks fully white, with no black ancestry. But all that is jmo. In all the possible matches I've seen in 10 years of looking at doenetwork, etc, I've only seen a couple cases where I thought an amateur was on the right track, (both of them were on this site), and I think this is one that should definitely get some attention from the authorities.

I think it really differs with kids, how they change as they grow up. I look exactly the same as I did when I was 2 years old. I'm bigger of course, but I bet any of you could pick my 2 yo picture out of a lineup if you were looking at me. My brother is more like your daughter. I don't think anyone would pick his picture. He looks totally different, even his hair went from blond and fairly thin to dark brown and thick. My hair has always been dark and thick from birth. It's just so odd how people change (or don't) lol.

TracyLynnS
03-31-2009, 01:46 PM
For me, I can look at my 3 months old baby picture, and I look exactly like my dad. I could have a line up of baby photos and not know which was mine and be able to say, "yep, that kid is my dad's" because I looked exactly like him from birth. (and that's a sad story, cuz I'm a girl lol)

I could even ID myself from a baby pic to an adult, because I have weird facial characteristics, like one oddly shaped ear, and a droopy eye. (Don't I sound lovely?)

But in Nyleen's case, I don't even think she has a prominent freckle that we can look at and use as a reference. That makes it a lot harder.

The people over at websleuths have a good choice, too, coming up with Doreen Vincent as a possible match to the Jane Doe. They look very similar.

I have a couple minor problems with the match. Doreen has dark eyebrows and Jane Doe has light brown eyebrows, unless it's just a photographic illusion. Also, there's no connection at all between Doreen, from Connecticut and Jane Doe in Wisconsin.

Jane Doe was 5' 8". Doreen was almost 13 years old when she was last seen, so she probably grew another two inches, maybe even three, if she lived into adulthood. She was 5' 4" inches when she went missing. Could she have grown another 4 full inches between age 12 1/2 and adulthood? I grew 3 inches in that time, from 5' 3" to 5' 6".

What do you guys think about the height issue?

Hmm....okay, I forgive ya :)

I'll have to take your word for it; I will look at a pic of Doreen Vincent, but I can't bring myself to look at Jane Doe's again.

I do remember the similarities b/t Jane and Nyleen, thanks Tracy for reminding me.

Isn't it possible that Jane Doe had a cognitive disability (I remember reading that)? That surely would limit the possibilities, wouldn't it? Also, didn't she have deformed ears? I'm going by memory now, since it's been a WHILE since I've read up on her.....

This case is so tragic for so many reasons with the child missing, the taunting contacts by this person, and the mother's death.
Any update?

DarkDante's opening post for his Nyleen Kay Marshall thread said the police found evidence she never left Montana.

I would like to personally state that of all the missing children cases profiled on UM I truly believe that Nyleen Kay Marshall is still alive with probably no memories of 6-25-83 or the years that preceded it. I was wondering as to what others opinions are regarding the case and Nyleen's whereabouts? - it is amazing to me that she has not stumbled upon herself on a missing persons flyer or something like that. Officials now believe that there is strong evidence that Nyleen may have never been taken out of the Montana area by her abductor(s).

A friend of mine reported a possible lead back in 2006 to one of the missing children organizations (I think it was the NCMEC). Apparently, there is evidence to suggest Nyleen is dead.

Then again, investigators often say information is hard to come by. It seems most possible leads don't lead anywhere. They often get call-ins for possible leads. I wonder what it is that leads them to believe Nyleen not only never left Montana, but she's dead.

As for Nancy's death, it's easy to get away with murder in Mexico. The cops can be bribed.

Probably unpopular, but I don't think Nyleen was abducted. She attended a picnic here (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Elkhorn+Picnic+Area/@46.24567,-111.96665,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x146628c58995df4f?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj26MuOl5TvAhXJQs0KHSQRDAcQ_BIwEnoECB4QAw), in a remote section of the Elkhorn Mountains. They were there with several members of a radio club that her father was a member of. I find it hard to believe that a random abductor would have been out in that area, who could not only have zeroed in on Nyleen, but also made it out of the area undetected. I think she wandered off and died of exposure and that the letters and phone calls, which all originated from the same area, were cruel hoaxes.

I agree 100%. There were just too many people there. Someone would have picked up on the fact that an individual was among them who looked out of place. An abductor could not have blended in that easily. Not to mention, completely absconding with Nyleen without one single person seeing or hearing anything would have been extremely tricky at best. The abduction would have had to have been planned out in detail, with more than one person involved and would have entailed leaving the park area another way, besides the main entrance which also would have been very difficult, given the location and terrain. I too think that she wandered off and died of exposure.

Anonymous letters like that always turn out to be fake.

Investigators have said that there were some accurate bits of information in this letter that were never released to the public. So for that reason, I can't write off this letter as being a fake.

We've also never had access to the FULL letter. Thanks to the pause buttons on our TV's, we've only seen a portion of page one and part of the last page. There's an entire middle section that we'll probably never be privy to.

I have always wondered what “inside details” were contained in the letters that made LE take them seriously.

One thing to consider is that throwing weight behind that anonymous letter and then claiming that there are "inside details" about it that haven't been released to the public is a surefire way to ensure the case stays open indefinitely.

This is very thin, but I think what could've possibly happened is that after wandering off and dying of exposure as others have mentioned, the authorities did their damndest to try and find her, but came up short. Frustrated and not wanting to admit they couldn't solve this one, after the letter came in, they took that and added the "inside details" bit. Together with the initial account from another child about a stranger lurking in the area (could any of the adults there corroborate this?), that would let them off the hook.

Otherwise, I don't see how you could square the existence of "inside details" with the scenario of her wandering off.
