Movie Reviews: The International

If Confessions of a Shopaholic is being faulted for bad timing, The International is being praised for its timeliness. Unfortunately, many critics have little else to praise the movie for.

Tom Maurstad in the Dallas Morning News comments, "If ever a movie seemed made for its time, The International is it. ... There's just one problem: The movie isn't very good."

Lou Lumenick in the New York Post regards a key sequence. filmed at the Guggenheim Museum, as "preposterous" and the movie itself as a "remarkably dull thriller."

Joe Morgan in the Wall Street Journal dismisses it as a "hollow new charade."

Joe Neumaier in the New York Daily News thinks it "almost seems like a Monty Python spoof on spy-game thrillers."

Rick Groen in the Toronto Globe & Mail acknowledges that he went to the screening of the movie with a "strong rooting interest." He writes: "Definitely, this is the sort of movie you want to prevail, and when it doesn't, when what first seems like intelligent intricacy ends in bamboozled confusion, all that remains is an acute sense of getting royally ripped off. Call me a whiner, but a studio flick about corporate villainy shouldn't leave the audience feeling like a corporate victim."

But Ty Burr in the Boston Globe finds the scene that the Post's Lumenick regards as "preposterous" to be "so audacious, so supremely well crafted that I don't want to tell you anything more about it."

I was thinking about seeing The International because it looks like it has a lot of action in it but i'll wait for it to come to video. Clive Owen is a good actor. I wanna see his other action flick Shoot Em Up with Paul Giamatti and Monica Belucci. I like his movie Derailed with Jennifer Aniston and rapper Xzibit.

That's the thing, The International does not contain a lot of action and that is what threw people off.

People expected something like Liam Neeson's Taken but this was more along the lines of Clooney's Michael Clayton. This is not a fast paced. shoot 'em up at all.

Also, the subject matter regarding a financial institution controlling people's money and government made people really not rush to see this one; given the current recession.

The International was kinda like Michael Clayton? Oh no LOL. Michael Clayton was very boring. George Clooney i notice does a lot of boring movies LOL. I don't see what's so special about him. People like him but his movies suck to me. Only movie of his i like is Out Of Sync with Jennifer Lopez and Ving Rhames.

I'm not saying The International was bad but if you go in expecting you're going to see a fast paced, shoot 'em up type of film then you will be disappointed.

The action that the film does have is good though.

My favorite Clooney flick is From Dusk Till Dawn.
