Sherry Stringfield is returning to ER, a source close to the deal has confirmed to TVGuide.com.

Stringfield's participation is the latest in a slew of alums who have signed off to send off the show in its final season, a group that already includes Anthony Edwards, Julianna Margulies and George Clooney.

Stringfield played Dr. Susan Lewis on NBC's medical drama from 1994-1996 and then returned to the show in 2001 for another four seasons. No word on how Dr. Lewis will reappear this time.

YAY! She's one of my all time favorites. And with Dr. Lewis back, this means every single one of the coveted orignal six cast members have returned/are returning for one final bow. It would have been a shame for her not to make an appearance during the final episodes. And it's even more wonderful that she's returning because Susan's return is the one I feel is necessary to give the show proper closure.

The same can be said about Ming-Na's Jing-Mei, though it can be argued that it wouldn't make sense for Dr. Chen to return to the ER, since she quit and had a horrible experience with having to give a lethal injection to her father. Then there's the opinion that her story needs to be finished differently. I, for one, don't think it would be inappropriate for Deb to come back, especially in light of Carter's and now Susan's return, both of whom were her friends. I would like to see her come back because she left mourning the loss of her father, out of a job, and not knowing what she'd do after she buried her father in China.
