I've never heard that before. Gale Gordon always had a reputation for being the consummate gentleman, and for him to make a comment like that about Vivian Vance seems very much out of character for him. William Frawley, on the other hand . . .

I think you're confusing Gale Gordon and William Frawley. It was Frawley who had that additude toward Vivian Vance. They didn't get along at all and its a wonder how they got their scenes filmed. Good acting, I guess!
