View Full Version : Just Realized Something About Fonzies Apartmet MikeLutton 02-12-2009, 02:53 PM hey i just realized something am u know fonzie never had a tv in his apartment above the garage lol all the years he was in his apartment fonzie never had a tv just bed pictures and a fridge lol robyrob 02-12-2009, 08:35 PM i dont remember seeing a tv in there either Marvo301 02-12-2009, 08:44 PM Hey c'mon. Fonzie owned and operated a garage, was half owner of a Drive-In Restaurant, and was a high school shop teacher. On top of that he was dating almost every single woman in Milwaukee. When did he ever have time to watch TV? MikeLutton 02-12-2009, 08:47 PM mabye on his days off lol i didnt think of it til now he was kind busy guess he watched tv downstairs with the cunninghams he one busy man anglemark10 02-13-2009, 01:18 AM It may have been on the side of the room opposite the kitchen that we never saw. Marvo301 02-13-2009, 01:26 AM Why would Fonzie even need a TV in His apartment? When he brought girls over to his apartment it wasn't to watch TV!;) MikeLutton 02-13-2009, 04:49 AM that true thought he could use it to watch lone ranger and old movies u are right girls not intrested in watching tv more then couch action hehe ayyyyyyyyyyy MikeLutton 02-13-2009, 04:51 AM It may have been on the side of the room opposite the kitchen that we never saw. that true Chocolate Moose 02-13-2009, 11:08 AM REMEMBER, IT WAS THE 1950's, tvs weren't so common Heidi Dawn 02-13-2009, 05:08 PM REMEMBER, IT WAS THE 1950's, tvs weren't so common That is so true! My father grew up in the 1950's and his family never had a TV set or electricity or indoor plumbing until he left the nest. I think the Fonz was too busy with all of his dates to watch TV. He would watch TV with the Cunninghams sometimes. MikeLutton 02-13-2009, 05:26 PM that all true i didnt think about them all being in the 50s and busy with all his dates to watch tv he had one downstairs and nm on in the 50s to begin with. the fonz rules my favorite tv hero it was something i thought of that all. wayne 02-25-2009, 03:25 PM There was no TV and no microwave either. I bet there weren't any stairs either that led to the apartment, but we just saw photos of somone's stairs. Which makes me wonder how they ever got inside if the apt was above the garage? Dusty's Fan 02-25-2009, 05:57 PM Microwave ovens didn't exist until the 1970s. Quite a bit later than the Happy Days years. I believe the first one to be marketed was the Amana RadarRange. anglemark10 02-26-2009, 02:11 AM Microwave ovens didn't exist until the 1970s. Quite a bit later than the Happy Days years. I believe the first one to be marketed was the Amana RadarRange. I was curious about this, so I looked it up. The first microwave oven in the world was built in 1947 and called the Radarange by Raytheon. The first commercial model was introduced in 1954. The first popular home model was introduced in 1967 and was also called the Radarange. So, this was after the Happy Days years. robyrob 02-26-2009, 10:34 AM those early models were HUGE and ridiculously expensive - they didn't really come down in price enough for the average person till the mid to late '70's Dusty's Fan 02-26-2009, 02:12 PM Thanks for all the info. We got ours around 1975 and friends were interested to see it. It had analog controls (two knobs). I didn't know the earliest ones went back that far (1947? wow!). Story has it that the early realization that microwaves could cook food came from the melting of a candy bar in the pocket of a researcher...! Certainly they didn't begin to become common in the household until the '70s, as stated above. When Laverne & Shirley did their episode where they're in the display window in the house of the future (on their show), the set design people actually took a 1970s Amana and changed the knobs to make it look futuristic, and mounted it in the wall. Voila, a futuristic item. Anyway, although The Fonz did shop in the supermarket, I doubt that he had much need for cooking -- as he was a regular at the Cunningham table.
