Has anyone noticed how Sony finally included the infamous Screen Gems "S" at the end of the season 7 DVD episodes? I love it. I remember it from when I was a child watching these shows. I've read where it used to scare some children, but it never bothered me. :D

I always thought, and still do, that the S, and the music that accompanied it, lent a warm, friendly touch to the shows it closed. That and the 1955-60 SG torch lady-the version that also appeared on some Three Stooges shorts for eons-are my two favorite Screen Gems logos.

OMG don't tell me they included the scary Screen Gems "S" at the end of the season 7 DVD episodes. That thing scared the hell out of me as a kid. If I buy this DVD, I will have to skip that part for fear if I see this now the bad memory will resurface and I will never recover again. ;)

There is another Screen Gems logo, I describe it as the one with the "dancing sticks". I believe it was used during the early and mid 60's. I have seen it at the end of some Hazel episodes.

Another Screen Gems logo is the Columbia Lady herself, with Screen Gems, Television Subsidary Columbia Pictures Corporation used as the lettering on it.

Screen Gems exists today as a genre specific label for Columbia Pictures, using the S from Hell in usually a blue, crystal type look--many logo afficianados called this the S from Heaven.

Here's an early SG logo with the lady:

Yep, I even found one of my all time favorite commercials, a 1974 ad for RC cola. I thought I would never see this again until I found it on you tube. Check it out:

The Screen Gems "S" from Hell never bothered me, either. Now the Paramount "Closet Killer" logo at the end of the first season "Brady Bunch" episodes-that was a different story. I used to dread the closing credits from that first season, knowing what was coming up.

Look closely, it could be either an S or a G.

BTW they've also brought it back for the Partridge Family Season 4 box set.

I have a question: was there ever a B&W Screen Gems "S from Hell" logo attached to the end of every Three Stooges short when they were re-ran in the 1970's? And if so, wasn't the jingle the original creepy Eric Siday tune, or the "Batfink" special horn jingle originally used for the 1/2-hour syndication version of the series in question?

1) Absolutely not. 2) Huh...? To be responsive, obviously the answer would be no (whatever the question is....)

Why is it called the "s" from hell?

Why is it called the "s" from hell?
The animation of two parallelograms connecting to each other to form an "S" with a dot in the middle. This dot makes an outline that, when viewed with the lower of the parallelograms, forms the letter "g" (lower case), hence "Screen Gems."

The regular Eric Siday-composed jingle, performed on a Moog Modular synthesizer, wasn't really tame. Following six notes resembling a simulated violin (or whatever), the two arpeggio notes that play as the words "SCREEN GEMS" emerge from nowhere, to be seen below the "S," may startle a few people.

Could anyone please tell me exactly whether or not the Screen Gems logo from 1970 to 1974 (with the shorter, 3-note-and-2-arpeggio music) was on a gold background and a red "S" logo (like the 1965-70 version of the logo)?

Other times in this period, the "S" was brown and that may likely have been because of film deterioration.

When I first saw the S I thought it looked like two floor tiles coming together. The Wackiest Ship In The Army was the first show I saw to have that logo.
