Since I live in NYC I have found many coins mixed in with US currency. They come from all over the place.

I wanted to see what special coins you might have discovered over time. These are what I found:

Very cool James - you're Canadian loonie (dollar) is one from the year they were introduced (1987). I understand we're also to hang onto any penny (and now nickle) that has the flattened sides. They're worth more because they had true copper and nickle content in them (which they no longer do).

I'll have to get mine polished and photos taken to post.

Living here in Michigan I tend to come across Canaidan coins quite a bit. Windsor is less than three hours from here.

From time to time I will come across a Kennedy half dollar, and their are coin machines where you put in a 5 dollar bill you will get a least one Susan B. Anthony and those presidential dollar coins.

Having worked many years as a cashier at a gas station I was able to collect numerous unique coins which somehow found their way into the cash register. Some day I should go through and catalogue them all. Anyways a few examples:(sorry no pictures)
1Yuan coin(Chinese I believe)
25 cent coin from the Bahamas
20 Sen coin from Malaysia
1 Bolivar coin from Venezuela
100 Peso coin from Mexico

I have found lots of foreign coins over the years. I have coins from every continent other than Antarctica. I think the most unique coins are from Oman and Sinapore. I also found a 1874 Indian head penny in a penny role when I worked at Mcdonalds years ago.

Cool! Any chance you could get pictures to post? I'm going to, but I want to clean the coins up a bit before I get pictures of them so they can be seen clearly. Mine are mostly Canadian (a couple cool American ones) but the ones they've issued in the past few years are quite expansive and pretty.

Years ago I had a bill from the Falkan Islands - just about the time Britain invaded them. It was weird since I had never even heard of the Falkans before that! lol

I'm from Maine so I see Canadian coins on a day-to-day basis. What I hate most about them is that the vending machines don't accept them, they only take "American Money" although they won't accept those state coins sometimes, either.

I have 49 of the 50 U.S. state quarters (still haven't found Hawaii). I have
a Bicentennial U.S. quarter. I also have a Belgium franc, a Canadian penny,
a 1944 U.S. penny, and a 1902 U.S. penny. (I don't know how or when or
where I acquired that 1902 penny, but I imagine it must be worth something.)

I just answered my own question. I did a Google search on "coin values" and
the Heritage Auction site lists Indian pennies (from 1888 on) worth between
50 cents and over $30, depending on condition.

Yeah that bugs me about the self check out lanes at the store I work at. It won't accept Canadian coins, but will give them out as change.
