Danny DeVito is hailing a cab all the way to the movies - he wants his hit TV show Taxi to be revamped as a reunion film. The actor, who played a bad-tempered boss in the beloved sitcom, wants to reteam with Christopher Lloyd, Marilu Henner, Tony Danza and the rest of the surviving cast for a movie.
He says, "It's not out of the question that down the line we could go revisit the garage and do a really good Taxi reunion movie.
“We love Taxi. I did five years on it. All the people on Taxi are my friends. Everybody started doing other things, so we were all separated and there was no way to get us back together at the same time.”

Ditto. I wonder what they'd do about Latka, though. I know Andy Kaufman's gone, so I'd prefer that they write the death in somehow than bring in someone else to play him. I hate when they do that!
Marvo301 01-30-2009, 12:18 AM I also wonder if Jeff Conaway would be up to doing a movie. Based on his recent appearance on "Celebrity Rehab" he doesn't look in great shape. Maybe a reunion Movie would be the motivation he needs to finally get healthy!
MrRetro_08 01-30-2009, 01:55 PM It would be good if that happened but I doubt it.
Chocolate Moose 01-30-2009, 02:17 PM They should do it. And iof Andy is in hiding, this would be the perfect time for him to reveal himself.
treky 01-31-2009, 11:54 PM oh, C'MON already about Andy Kaufman being "in hiding"!!!! I can't believe some people still think that!!! The man's been dead since 1984, people, don't you think that if he was he would have revealed himself by now??? Yes, I miss him too, and I wish he was still alive, but sadly, he isn't.
OK, just had to get that off my chest.
Now onto the subject of this thread.
If they ever do a "TAXI" reunion movie, I'd also watch. But I agree they shouldn't get someone else to play Latka. They should write his death in somehow like Carl Riener did with Buddy, Mel, and Jerry Helper in that Dick Van Dyke reunion.
Chocolate Moose 02-01-2009, 10:07 AM If you know anything about Andy, that was something he talked about. Coming out of hiding after 10 years.

Well that would have 1994 and that didn't happen.
Chocolate Moose 02-02-2009, 02:46 PM He also discussed 20.
JamesG 02-02-2009, 03:44 PM Andy is dead. I don't know why people out there think otherwise.
The LAPD have his death certificate on file.
IF he is in hiding he better stay in hiding because should he reveal himself he would face charges.

I agree with you, he's been dead for almost 25 years.
steevo 02-21-2009, 05:14 AM I can't imagine that with all the technology today that it would be easy to fake one's own death and stay in hiding all these years. Andy was sort of a legend that way, that people like to speculate that he is still alive in the same way that Elvis was still alive.
As for a Taxi reunion, I would love to see it, too. :) It's amazing how virtually all of the cast went on to other successful projects and stayed in the spotlight after all these years.
Duster76 02-21-2009, 04:53 PM The question, is it worth it? Most of these reunion movies have failed and some have been spectacular failures, very painful to watch. Return to Mayberry was the best one I can remember, the Dick Van Dyke reunion movie wasn't too bad, but the rest.....
That said there are some positives here. First, almost the entire cast has remained very active and they are a very talented group (you could make a case that it was the most talented cast ever in a sitcom) . Second, both Devito and Hirsch have writing and directing credits and that might help avoid the usual pitfalls that happen when the production is full of people who do not fully understand the characters and the way they interact or the formatics related to the storylines.
Andy is gone and that is a huge problem, and the story arcs are difficult to imagine. I guess they could put something together related to a series of bizarre death bed requests that Latka left with Simka forcing the reluctant
group to go along with them.
Interesting to think about, I'm really on the fence on this one.
comedyfreak 03-04-2009, 03:24 PM I think that would be a great idea for a movie reunion. With Danny directing it should be good, hope he can get everyone together again. I'd go see the movie.
caladon 03-19-2009, 11:22 PM Just for fun; here's the original cast.
