Surely I can't be the only one who has noticed this lately. Thankfully, I am way past my teens now, so there is no way in hell I'm going to be caught dead donning some of THESE revivals. I donned them the first time they were around in the early 90s; that was plenty ENOUGH.

Okay, so I own one paint-splattered item, but it's just a coffee mug (this one (http://wkstudio.typepad.com/studio/images/2008/08/06/08mug.jpg), and the paint splatters are just on that side) and doesn't look as cheesy as the paint-splattered revivals I'm seeing in stores lately.

Here are some pics I took...

Paint-splattered shoes at Target!

A zoomed-out view of what the females' side of Hot Topic looks like. Neon galore.

Some of the ridiculously hideous shoes they're selling. These are FEMALES' shoes... omg:

Okay, I wore high top shoes like these (not THAT hideously ugly, although I remember mine having neon accents) almost 20 years ago, and now they're back?!! And uglier than ever? Oh boy...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/PZelda/album2/n29413753_35241327_2156.jpg

My own MOTHER wore sunglasses in that exact same shape in the late 80's. WHY ARE THESE BACK IN STYLE. *cries*

Oh boy... Next thing you know, acid-wash denim will be back, as well as the age of plaid (aka grunge!). The fashions of the entire 90s SUCKED. I never dreamed they'd freaking REVIVE it. Ew...

That's less about the early 1990s and more about hipsters/scenesters adopting the late 1980s hip-hop candy kid look.

Ah Hot Topic, where the sheeple go.

It's not just Hot Topic. I'm seeing it creep up in other stores. Bet you'd see something similar if you shopped in the juniors section at any department store. They're definitely there in big-box stores now too. I just happened to take more pics at Hot Topic yesterday.

The mens' section at Target now is... interesting. Heh.

Ahhhh. My child hood! I wore the ugliest things as a kid in the 90's. Please don't let them come back.

omg: 90's fashion are coming back already.

When I was a kid there was a 60's revival of sorts(largely due to that flick The Big Chill). When I got out of high school, there was a 70's revival. At the beginning of this decade the 80's revival started, and now we are entering a re interest in the 90's!!!

I'm getting old

Actually, the 70s revival started sometime around 1997 and hasn't really died out yet. It's just been in the last 5 years that there's been a serious 80s revival.

I want to say that a lot of trends today are like...if the 70's and 80's had a baby.

Last night I was at a mall and walked by some, idk, young people's store of some sort, and they had a mini jean skirt with paint splashed on the butt. It was so wrong in soooooo many ways. And very 80s now that you mention it. All someone would need is some LA Gear, neon, and a hair crimper.

Yeah, I pretty much dressed the same way back them and had a big ol' perm. We're only a few weeks apart in age, Cathy, so I know exactly where you're coming from.

Yup, late 80s carrying over into the early 90s. Mid-80s baby here, and I remember that stuff and have pictures to prove it. And see, it's not just Hot Topic doing it. All the young-people stores + big-box stores that sell clothes to young people are doing it, too.

I'll be keeping my eyes open for hair crimpers making an appearance again... god, that would be horrifying. Oh man, LA Gear. They were the shizzle. lol

You had the "peacock" bangs, Cathy? That was one style even at the time I ddn't much care for. Even though there are some early 90's styles that I did like and that I think are better than what is happening today. Still, there were some crazy ones too. Do you remember the style of rolling up the cuffs of your pants? I remember doing that. Or with guys, pulling up the cuffs of their sweatpants just bellow their kness. I recall doing the also. Two other questionable styles. still, as I mentioned, there were some early 90's styles that I liked. I thought girls looked good with permed hair, as long as it wasn't over done.

It was more...idk, not really peacock. I'll have to find a picture or something. I started growing them out in 7th/8th grade. And now...I own, and use many days, a flat iron. lol

I have a two-in-one iron - one side curling, the other side flat.

I hope that you don't take this as put down, Monika, because I certainly don't mean it as such. Infact, just the opposite. The pictures that you have posted here show a person who has their own personal look more than someone who is following a style. Like the ultra long hair that you have. I can't really see you having been any different as a kid. Again, this isn't meant as a insult, because there is nothing wrong with not jumping on every fad that comes along.

Yeah, since I was a teen I've pretty much done my own thing when it comes to clothes and hair. I really like the retro look, like flare jeans and wide headbands and such. As much as I like a lot of the music from the 80s and 90s, I think the fashions and hairstyles from that time should stay dead and buried.
