The author of the article Jack Carrerow mentions one Rick's Last TV appearances of the seldom seen rare 1985 NBC summer series "Our Time" which was a retro "Laugh-in" style series featuring classic stars, I was fortunate enough to have recorded 5 episodes of the series including the mentioned reunion of Rick & The original jordainaires as mentioned in the article. Its nice to have someone else remember that series, especially in print, as everytime I mention it no one remembers it!

It's cool you have those recorded! You think any of those eppys are on Youtube? I'll have to research.

This is my favorite part of the article:

"You see, while a lot of my friends loved Ward Cleaver, I always felt Ozzie was the superior father because he played catch with his kids and did something ol’Ward wouldn’t be caught dead doing. Ozzie made mistakes — a lot of them —" :)

Dick York also made his final screen performance on Our Time. Sounds like it was a fun show with terrific actors!!

That's actually the exact same reason Ozzie is my favorite tv dad. You actually saw Ozzie interacting with the boys. He spent time with them. They played baseball or football out in the yard. He respected them. He didn't demeaned them. How many times did Ward go off on a tirade making Beav feel this big? Dave and Ricky never had a scene where they were afraid of Ozzie. Beav and Wally were always afraid of Ward. Ward seemed very formal and aloof. The Nelsons seemed much more laid back and casual.
I love the Nelsons :)

Amen to that. I think that must be why so many people identified with them. Or perhaps many people DID have a dad like Ward Cleaver and wanted one like Ozzie Nelson. :(

God bless the Nelsons!

I started watching Ozzie and Harriet in the 1980's when I was 12. So because of that, I never wanted Ozzie and Harriet to be my parents. I wanted Ozzie and Harriet to be my Grandparents! I remember back then thinking how cool it would be if Ozzie and Harriet were my grandparents and Dave and Rick my uncles! haha :)

Yeah, Harriet was great; I always thought she had a very wry wit and exquisite timing! And the article you posted was just great!! ... and confirmed what I've heard from others - that Rick was extremely nice in person & glad his son(s) are too!

I love hearing Rick's kid talk about him.
What a great lesson he taught them about fans and who the fans really are.. your 'employer'. to bad Ricky couldn't have taught that lesson to all entertainers.
