oh yes it's my turn now! :)

Do you read fan fictions?

What shows do you like to read if you like to read fan fictions?

i do actually but because i spend a lot of time online on this site amongst a couple of others, in the past couple of months i haven't had the time to read other people's fan fiction. a lot of them are well written and excellent i have to say.

as for shows i like to read, many sitcoms though in particular caroline in the city- of which i am a massive fan of, and ugly betty, which is my favourite current tv show and the only one i tune into these days.

What was the first movie you saw in the theater?

oh my goodness, it has been a long time since i went to the cinema. i don't watch movies in the cinema now because here in the uk it is so damn expensive. it costs like £5 something which is the cheapest you can get outside of central london. in central london, you have to pay something like £7 or over which is just ridiculous. i'm not a huge movie fan as i prefer tv, but if i want to see a film, i wait for it to come out on dvd and purchase it afterwards. as for the first movie i saw, i think it was nutty professor 2 with eddie murphy and janet jackson. i cannot remember though.

Have you ever been to the US? If so, what was your impession of it?

not yet. i would love to though and perhaps live there as well. because i am a city girl myself, i'd prefer new york, LA, chicago, although i wouldn't mind branching out to the mid west and the south. seeing as i am from the south of england myself.

What is your favorite show of all time?

probably caroline in the city because i loved that show when i was a kid. there are tons of other shows that i love also such as the jeffersons, diff'rent strokes, fresh prince, ugly betty to name

What type of music do you like to listen to?

mainly pop from the 80s although i do love all types of music. just as long as it has a good melody and lyrics, it doesn't matter what it is

What is your favorite thing about London?

the fact that it is so multicultural you have people from various ethnic and geographical groups living in different parts of london

What were the best and worst school years of your life?

the best school years was when i was in secondary school and i was round about 9 or 10 and i had a couple of friends, mainly male but also female but i had a good relationship with them.

the worst school years was when my secondary school years had ended and i entered high school. being a chinese kid at school back in the early 90s for me was hell- i endured a lot of intimidation and bullying, a lot of it was race related and it wasn't just the kids outside my class, but within my class as well. they called me names and even talked behind my back when they thought i wasn't listening. i still hate those times to this day and thinking about it just makes me angry.

where are you from?

i am originally born in perivale in west middlesex, england but was raised primarily in west london. i say west london because when i was young, myself, my two brothers, sister, mother and father we all lived in different parts of london, as we kept moving around. my mother is originally from china and my dad is from hong kong, but my younger siblings were also born in london as well. even though i live in north west london at the moment, i consider my home to be in west london.

What is your favorite Color ?

blue, because it represents good and because it is such a peaceful colour. i also like purple as well.

Do you go online a lot when you have free time at home?

i do.

what do you like to do in the winter time?

staying and resting at home

, it's okay. My auntie who's from england told me about "The Stig" and I had no idea either. I guess he's/or she? is some race car driver on BBC who has never removed their helmet or spoken so people have no idea who it is. Kind of like a legend or something.

What is it you love and hate about American TV shows?

What is the biggest difference between American and British TV?

What is it you love and hate about American TV shows?

love- the storylines, situations, characters- i just seem to have a thing for american shows. there is an appeal with them that i find rather interesting. as for what i hate, probably when they depict british characters speaking like snobs with posh accents or cockney, dick van dyke accents.

biggest difference between US and UK tv- probably in terms of comedy and sitcoms the humour, the jokes and that what americans might find funny, some brits feel the exact opposite and vice versa with brits.

love about US tv shows- i just seem to have an interest in the US and american culture and american popular culture

hate- when US actors put on awful fake english accents- though i liked paul benedict's as harry bentley on the jeffersons

waichingliu81
01-27-2009, 06:43 AM
How old were you when you got your first kiss?

have to say i am still a virgin at 27 (!)- will turn 28 next month though. but seriously though, i'm not the type of person of whom is ready for a relationship just yet. i have lot of things to consider like my university education, of which i still haven't graduated, getting a job, moving out of my parents house. i just feel like that i am happy and content with things are at the moment and that i don't neccessarily feel as if i need a boyfriend, in order to feel complete and settled as of right now. though my idea for a dream guy would be someone who looks similar to michael urie who plays marc on ugly betty. hehe! ;)

If you had a fantasy dinner and could invite anyone (living or dead), who would you invite? It is okay to invite more than one person.

this one is tricky, i am trying to think of some names at the top of my head. ok, martin luthor king, there is a british born chinese celeb going by the name of gok won, he presents a show called 'how to look good naked'- though in truth it is about fashion, despite the title of the name. i've seen him a few times on tv and he seems to be a guy with a great personality, michael urie again!! and becki newton from ugly betty, comedian eddie izzard because i just love his sense of humour and he is one of my favourite comedians, ever. kylie minogue- i have been a fan of her music since i was a young girl and she seems really nice and so down to earth as well

When was the last time you took a family portrait (if you ever did one)?

a LONG time ago, round about when i was 4 or 5. there is photo of me and my dad holding me whilst i sit on his lap, and my younger brother is in my mother's lap holding a rattle, and my sister is in the middle. i don't think i've ever had one with my other brother who was born a few year after me. which is a shame. but i have a photo of just me with my two brothers and sister.

Do you speak with a BBC or working class Brit accent?

i would say i speak in a working class accent. i notice that many native chinese people, when they speak english, it sounds like 'broken english', as in it has a chinese accent, but when i speak i have a london accent. also in the uk, we have regional accents such as mancunian in manchester, brummie in birmingham, geordie in newcastle and scouse in liverpool. many british born chinese do speak with regional accents, depending on what part of the uk they are from. and yes we have chinese people speaking in scottish, welsh and irish accents too!

[B]Sorry to read you had troubles with jerks in high school (I know the feeling); have things gotten better since reaching adulthood?

i would say yes. i think going to college was a great experience, not just from a studying point of view but also because the students i met were so friendly and well behaved. i think it helps considerably when at college the students, unlike school with pupils, they range from different age groups, as well as nationalities and backgrounds. there is a diversity and openness within college that i seem to find that just wasn't there whilst i was at school. i also like the fact that it is less formal than school and that as long as you respect the rules, you get treated like an adult, rather than as a child.

Is there a large Asian community in London?

unfortunately no. in terms of the population itself, we rank last behind the indians, as in muslims, sikhs, iraqis (here in the uk because they have the largest contingent, they therefore are labelled asian), blacks and then whites of whom top the group. in london, yes there is a chinatown and a lot of them do congregate there. but in the uk, the term asian where i live they tend to refer to people of indian, pakistani, iraqi descent. there is also a very tiny british born japanese population.

Have you ever visited Canada?

my sister has- she went to toronto early last year, but i haven't yet. i still want to go there at some point, alongside the US, australia, south africa.

What do you do for hobbies?

drawing, image editing using a photo editing site called photobucket, listening to music, reading on books on western philosophy and culture

What is your favorite Johnny Depp movie?

i don't consider myself to be a fan of his, but i cannot fault him for being a very good actor and he seems a nice guy too. probably one of the pirates of the carribean movies

waichingliu81

Are you into your ancestor's culture at all, or totally westernized?

you know mikey, this issue kind of puts me on the spot, because being chinese and born in england i therefore have 2 cultures. however, a lot of the things i like, particularly when it comes to music, films, tv shows many of them are western. i do like reading about my cultural heritage and background but i'm not one of those types of chinese people of whom is extremely loyal to my race. i like watching some kung fu movies and cantonese tv shows but that's as far as it goes. as i've grown up though i have become more exposed to western culture, particularly popular culture- and yet for me the issue is not about race. many of the celebrities, tv shows, pop acts i watch and listen to are predominantly either american or british- and yet the colour of their skin is not an issue.

there are also issues of which i don't agree with, particuarly with regards to china- like their human rights record, the communist government- and yet whenever i do speak out, i get accused of being a race traitor- or that in many chinese people's eyes i'm not 'chinese'- because of the fact that even though i look like one, i do not sound or act like one. but you know what, i don't think their opinion matters to me at all.

and the fact that my brothers and sister have friends who are chinese- both british born and native chinese, whilst i don't, it doesn't make me feel any less chinese as i do as being a westernised chinese. and besides, personally speaking i hate it when chinese brits for example b*tch and moan about even PC things and feel agrieved when someone makes a point about something and they take it seriously at face value because they think it is an attack on the chinese, and on them. if anything, i am happy that i don't have chinese friends, not to sound mean that is. as i don't feel i need to have one, just to say 'oh i'm chinese and british and i have a friend who is just like me in that respect'.

McDonalds or Red Lobster? <<Do they have Red Lobster in the UK???

i don't like mcdonalds- i used when i was a kid, but nowadays i prefer chinese or italian. i don't think we have a red lobster here in the UK.

Like you, I enjoy drawing....do you have a sample of something you drew, that you could post here?

(see below) i did this drawing at a live drawing class, last year at city lit college in central london.

I live 25 mins from Niagara Falls...but, I barely look at them (they aren't a big deal to me)...I have met people from France who feel the same way about the Eiffel tower; my question is: Are there any tourist sights in London that that you consider not even worth bothering with?

mainly ones that most of the tourists go to and visit- the tower of london, the london eye and those big space pod type things, and they all travel in those open top buses. when to travel to central london, i get there by bus and just walk when i get off at oxford circus

Will you let us know if you ever try mutton?

but of course! :)

Do you like northern soul?

i've never heard of them. i don't really follow today's music scene, as i am more of fan of the classics, especially the 80s.

What is your favorite Caroline In the City episode? Favorite character?

i have a couple but i'd go for caroline and the bullfighter from season 3, and mainly because of the ending. as for favourite character, well when i first watched it when i was 14, it was richard because he was just hilarious for a miserable uptight guy! and malcolm gets did a great job in that role but nowadays, my favourite is a tie between richard and caroline. i cannot choose between the both of them.

well they are all in their 20s and so, i don't really treat them differently whatsoever. when we were young, we used to argue and piss each other off, but as we got older, we realised that there was and is no need for us to treat each other like crap. they are mature and wise enough to make their own decisions. i just let them do what they want, just as long as they let me do what i want, and if and when things go wrong, i'll have to try and find a way round the problem.

i understand where you are coming from though- it sucks when it happens to you as a child and a teenager especially, but hopefully in time, when you and your younger siblings get older, they'll soon wise up.

i don't visit museums very often, even though they are free to enter and so you won't have to pay a penny to get in. but i'd say the imperial war musuem. try that one when you visit london

Are you a Robbie Williams fan?

no, and though he comes across as a nice guy, i wouldn't consider myself a fan of his music. i did like some of take that's records- take that were a boyband who were massive in 90s and the british equivalent to new kids on the block.

Do you like ice cream?

yes i do- my favourite flavours are strawberry, raseberry ripple, chunky munky, mint and choc chip to name but a couple

As you know from my avatar, I love canals...so you ever spend any time visiting the barge canals in the UK?

not really. i am more of a city girl myself, although in ealing where i used to live there is is massive canal and above it there is this bridge and all these cars drive to and from ealing.

What do you do online, besides posting on SO?

the sites i frequently visit are fan forum because i am an ugly betty fan and there is a thread on that show where i can discuss the show on there; ugly betty's live journal community - i have to say though that i didn't start using the journal until early this year but since then i have been a regular poster; fanpop- this is a social networking site, but it is very different from facebook or myspace- it's a site where fans of tv shows, bands, musicans, different hobbies and interests come together and chat in the forums, post photos, fan art, news articles, questions, video links etc. it is a really fun place that i love visiting. occasionally when i have time, i also surf 'deviant art'- this one is where people post their works of art online and get feedback. it is not just traditional art such as drawing, painting, sculpture but also fan art, cartoons, manga/anime are also featured as well. you tube of course because i enjoy watching music videos, tv shows, cartoons and different types of shows on there, and michael urie (who plays marc on ugly betty) has an official website called michael urie.net- he chats about everything and it is mainly a journal/blog of what he is currently up to and the things he likes watching and hearing for example.

Where are you from?

i answered this question in one of the posts that you made but here's my answer in case you forgot:

i am originally born in perivale in west middlesex, england but was raised primarily in west london. i say west london because when i was young, myself, my two brothers, sister, mother and father we all lived in different parts of london, as we kept moving around. my mother is originally from china and my dad is from hong kong, but my younger siblings were also born in london as well. even though i live in north west london at the moment, i consider my home to be in west london.

What kind of music do you like to listen to ?

80s pop mainly but i love all types

Do you have myspace? / Facebook?

i have facebook

do yo u have aim/ yahoo messenger?

just yahoo messenger

Do you work? Or go to School?

i am at university studying a joint hons. in media and journalism but i am also doing a P/T teaching course at a adult college- it's one day a week on thursdays and lasts for 10 weeks, though i started early january of this year, and so i am very occupied as it is!

Do you drink soda? If so, what kind is your favorite?

i very rarely drink soda, but when i do buy it is usually something like diet pepsi or diet cream soda- i avoid sugar in my drinks

Do you have you're own place? Or do you live with your parents still ?

i am still living with my parents, but hopefully after i graduate and land a job as a media studies lecturer at college, i will move out afterwards. though of course sadly i'd also have to pay back the students loans company, seeing as i took out a loan from them to help pay my uni course fees, which sucks

i don't visit museums very often, even though they are free to enter and so you won't have to pay a penny to get in. but i'd say the imperial war musuem. try that one when you visit london

Hehe, as a dedicated pacifist, thats probably not for me....I want to see some of the railway museums and the living industrial museums dedicated to the industrial revolution :) (Not that I'm planning to go to the UK anytime soon....but, maybe someday, who knows?)

then your best bet mikey would be to do a search on the web. just google 'railway museums, and living industrial museums' - although i think you are more likely to find them in the northern part of the uk, as opposed to where i live which is the south. i know that in covent garden in central london, on the tube it is one stop after leicester square on the northern line, they have the london transport museum and that one is free to enter.

i'll apologize in advance if any of these questions have already been asked:

have you heard about 10-10-220?

have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a cave in the wilderness and avoid all human contact?

do you believe that when a person dies in his sleep, they don't remember it until the next morning?

are you for or against forced urine testing?

how many licks does it take you to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

have you ever been, or will you ever be obsessed with Dwight Schrute?

what is the strangest thing you've ever done in an attempt to make something work?

what would your last meal be before getting executed?

what is your favorite Holiday?

if a hen and a half can lay an egg and a half in a day and a half, how long would it take a monkey with a wooden leg to kick the seeds out of a dill pickle?

two trains traveling in opposite directions leave the station at the same time, the first train leaves Chicago and travels 372 miles in 1 1/2 hrs more than the time it took the other train to travel a total of 279 miles to Washington D.C., when the trains meet head-on, on which side will they bury the survivors?

have you heard about 10-10-220?

no, i'm guessing that according to most people the world will end on this date, but i might be wrong

have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a cave in the wilderness and avoid all human contact?

i assume it would be lonely, cold and boring, and damp

do you believe that when a person dies in his sleep, they don't remember it until the next morning?

probably.

are you for or against forced urine testing?

well, if it is used in sports and to test athletes to see whether or not they have taken any banned substances, just to cheat in their sport, then yes i'd be all for it

how many licks does it take you to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

well i had a chupa chups lolly pop today, and it took something like 25 mins. the thing is i put the lollypop in my mouth and i just let it shrink inside my mouth. don't know about how many licks though

have you ever been, or will you ever be obsessed with Dwight Schrute?

i have no idea who he is or what he is famous for

what is the strangest thing you've ever done in an attempt to make something work?

i was working a remote control for a tv and both of the batteries were not working and were of the same brand, and so i swapped one of the batteries, for another one which wasn't of the same brand and inserted into the remote, and it worked.

what would your last meal be before getting executed?

probably lobster with stir fried noodles- a chinese dish with the yellow thin noddles- not the white thick ones

what is your favorite Holiday?

from the ones i have been to, hong kong. so far i have only travelled to 2 countiries- china and hong kong

if a hen and a half can lay an egg and a half in a day and a half, how long would it take a monkey with a wooden leg to kick the seeds out of a dill pickle?

*thinking* probably two days

two trains traveling in opposite directions leave the station at the same time, the first train leaves Chicago and travels 372 miles in 1 1/2 hrs more than the time it took the other train to travel a total of 279 miles to Washington D.C., when the trains meet head-on, on which side will they bury the survivors?

this is a maths question and i suck at maths; my guess would be the left but i am probably wrong anyway

Do you eat healthy food like Veggies and fruit, junk food or do you do both, junk and good stuff?

i go for both. i don't consider myself as a health food or junk food person. i have everything in moderation. i don't eat too much but i also tend not to eat too little. :) i also don't smoke and i tried alcohol a few times but the smell of the booze just puts me off
