Medical drama ER has been given a lifeline as fans prepare for the show's final episodes. Executive producer John Wells is set to pull the life support system on the hit program this spring, but he reveals the series could be saved.

Last year's Hollywood writer's strike gave the drama a stay of execution, and ratings have been steady ever since it was announced the current season would be ER's last.

And now Wells tells TV Guide he's had an offer to revive the series on a rival channel to NBC, which currently broadcasts the weekly show.

Wells, who has already started work on dismantling ER's sets, admits a move to the ABC network is unlikely, but states, "Never say never."

And whatever happens, the planned finale will go ahead - and feature ER stars past and present.

He adds, "I've been crafting an ending for two years."

As much as I love it, it is time to say goodbye to ER. It feels like the right time to go out. They've started winding things down these past two years, getting ready for the end. And like John Wells said, he's been "crafting an ending for two years." There's no reason to have been heavily promoting this as the final season and to have all these storylines concluding, and to film a proper two hour series finale, only to bring it back for another year. Have we learned nothing from 7th Heaven a few years ago? Let's just end it now and go out with dignity.

And ABC needs to go away. Why are they trying to take everyone's shows? They already took Scrubs. They expressed interest in The New Adventures of Old Christine. And now they want King of The Hill and ER? Enough already.

Don't know how rumors like this start. ABC doesn't want ER. And they never wanted King of the Hill. They took Scrubs because they OWNED it. McPherson developed it and wanted to give it a proper send-off. The only show they had "interest" from an outside company was Old Christine.

Don't believe everything you read. All gossip. Unless it is an official press release or an actual interview word for word and not some taken excerpts. Magazines like EW reported King of the Hill was going to ABC. When in reality ABC had no such interest. It was stated by Stephen McPherson at the TCA tour.

ER cannot move to a rival channel. It been a staple of NBC for 1.5 decades. We like it on NBC. ER cannot continue past its 15th season, so if it must end, it must end for good. Sorry.

In my opinion, ER's time was up several years ago. Time to pull the plug and let this once great show die with whatever bit of dignity it has left.

It's still great, or at least it has been this year.
