Tom And Jerry Set For Big Screen Return
22 January 2009 11:06 AM, PST

Classic cartoon characters Tom And Jerry are aiming to replicate the success of the Scooby-doo film franchise by starring in a live-action movie remake.

The cat and mouse comedy duo became family favourites when they made their small screen debut in the 1940s, and an animated feature-length version, Tom and Jerry: The Movie, was released in 1992.

And now they're going one step further, with a live-action remake set to hit theatre screens.

Bosses are hoping the film will achieve similar success to the 2002 Scooby-Doo movie and the 2004 sequel, Monsters Unleashed, which grossed $457 million (GBP330 million) at the global box office.

The new film will centre on how Tom and Jerry met and their subsequent rivalry, according to Daily Variety.

Didn't Hollywood already ****-up "Tom and Jerry" by having them talk?

Of course they did. I just hope that if they make Tom and Jerry talk...have better voice actors. (Tom talked a few times in those cartoons).

I am a little less opposed to them making live-action versions of cartoons, as I like to see how they will interpret the cartoon characters and situations in the "real" world. It's when they make live-action remakes of live-action shows, and remakes upon remakes of movies that are already there that bother me.
