Sid Vicious, real name John Ritchie, was the former bassist for English punk group Sex Pistols.

On October 11, 1978 Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen were staying at the Hotel Chelsea in NYC. They were both known drug abusers; mainly of heroin. The following morning Sid awoke to Nancy dead on the bathroom floor, she had bled to death from a single stab wound to the abdomen.

Despite Sid claiming he had no memory of what happened he was arrested and charged with murder. His record company posted his bail of $50,000. In the following months Sid was incarcerated at Bellvue and at Rikers Island for violent incidents.

On February 1st, 1979 Sid was at a party at the home of his new lover. He used some more heroin and then died of an overdose the following morning.

The murder of Nancy Spungen has never been officially solved since Sid died before a trial could come.

If you're familiar with this story, what do you think happened here? Was Sid guilty? Some people have said anything could have happened while Sid was passed out from drugs and that Nancy couldn't pay some dealers so they had her killed.

Not sure what to think to be honest. Sid may have killed her in a fit of rage, and then they did burn a couple of dope dealers from what I understand and they could have killed her. If this had gone to trial, more info probably would have came out for sure.

There has been a lot of speculation as to who really killed Spungen for the past thirty years, it may be possible that Sid did not really do it at all. I'm wondering if he was blamed simply because he was a punk rocker, just as many innocent individuals in the music scene have been when horrific events occur (i.e., Marilyn Manson being blamed for the Columbine massacre).
"Those guys are all freaky! They must have done it!!"

It is possible that Sid did not kill Spungen but I admit that the odds are really not in Sid's favor.

For one he was a heroin addict and that drug makes people really do pretty bad things; especially if you are mad/unstable to begin with. It is possible he got into a rage and the drugs and possible grief made him black it out.

Also, in the months before his death he was incarcerated for violent behavior. He was known to blow into rages at times.

If it were a drug deal gone bad, why did they spare Sid and not kill him too? The whole story is not together and perhaps we maybe will never know the answers.
