View Full Version : Photo Gallery Question
Has anyone had problems with the Photo Galleries today?
I tried uploading some pictures & they wouldn't go through at first and then later they went through without a thumbnail. I finally got them uploaded but it took 3 tries and quite a bit of time & patience. Any ideas what might have happened to cause this?
Ohio8 01-22-2009, 08:50 PM You too? I've been having this same problem today, and I'm miiiifgty unhappy about this.
^ I know what you mean.
It's doing just fine for me today. I don't know what was going on with it Thursday, though.
D-Dey 08-31-2009, 09:36 PM I've got a problem with the photo galleries today... a lot of them are missing, and all sections claim to have no photos.
There appears to be a huge glitch going on in the photo galleries today. I hope it's not permanent.
 :(
Mr. Television 08-31-2009, 09:41 PM Yea I was uploading some photos when SO went down a little after 7. I just noticed that some of my photos are missing. I hope they haven't been lost. I just noticed it's down again for some repairs so hopefully it's geting fixed.
Unfortunately, there was a major crash and the main photos table has become corrupt. We will probably have to restore from a backup from August 6. All of the photos are still there on the server in the correct directories, but they aren't linked in the database. Any photos that were uploaded after early on August 6 will probably have to be re-uploaded. I'm not sure if there was a photo limit reached or what happened. More details to come.
Scoobiedoo30 09-01-2009, 01:25 AM This is the first I hering of this I hope everything get's fixed soon.
The photo galleries are back up after restoring from an August 6 backup. Sadly all photos that were uploaded between August 6-31 no longer had any information on them in the database because it was corrupt. Basically any uploads, edits, moves, categories added or anything done between those dates was wiped out. This was the first time anything major like this has happened. Fortunately there was a somewhat recent backup or it would have been a complete disaster. Sorry folks. We'll have to rebuild. I will be posting links to folders where the missing images can be downloaded in the next few days if you didn't have them saved.

Thanks for getting it fixed & offering to link us to the folders! I ususaly delete the photos on my computer after uploading to the photo galleries on this site. Is there anything we can do to help keep it from happening again?

Thanks so much for fixing the problem so fast. I know it couldn't have been easy. When it first happened I thought all the photos might have been lost and I know some of the rare ones that I uploaded , I wouldn't be able to get back. I do have some of the ones that I had uploaded still saved. Sometimes I send the folder to the recycle bend and I forget to delete it from there. lol

I think it happened while I was uploading some photos. It was taking so long to go through and then all of a sudden SO just went offline.
I think it crashed when it was writing data and the server went offline. The database became corrupt and I ran a repair and that's when the information rolled back. It has been a pretty durable program for the last 5-6 years, so I was surprised when it went down. There had never been a major crash like that. I'll just have to back it up on a nightly basis. It had usually been backed up about every 2 weeks or so. If you have the hard drive space, I could suggest you save any photos that you upload for at least a month.
Here's a partial list of the shows with missing photos. I put them in .rar files. There are 90 or so more additional shows to be listed. I could upload them myself but they wouldn't have any titles or descriptions and I wouldn't know who uploaded them, so it will probably be easier for the original person to do that.

Well, thanks for the list, TJ. I've just downloaded some images from the list, quite a few of which are actually mine. I don't have too much drive space on my PC, but I do have a 1.5 Terabyte external hard drive. I just wish I could remember everything I wrote on each caption word for word.
jerry scott 09-03-2009, 06:20 AM Sorry to here about the crash.:( I've had crashes before so I know what a pain they can be. Luckily there was a recent backup.
BTW thanks for the rar link I went through and downloaded all the pics I had previously posted and as I type this I have a little less than half reupped.
Take care and have a SAFE future.

When I clicked on the link, I was unable to view the photos. This came up instead: Adobe Reader could not open rubyandtherockits.rar' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged. Any tips on how I can view them or am I just out of luck? Thanks!
You need to use a program like WinRar to unzip it.

I didn't have any of mine saved so I had to get one of those programs TJ mentioned. I believe I have them all back now saved on my computer but it's going to take a long time to reload them all. I sure hope it doesn't crash again anytime soon.

Thanks for the tip!
Thanks to everybody that has re-uploaded photos. The Nanny link has been fixed.
D-Dey 10-06-2009, 06:35 PM There seems to be another problem now. We can no longer split images between shows. At least I can't.
