Do you have a favorite Martina song? Favorite Sara Evans song?

In regards to Sara it's pretty easy to answer, "Suds in a Bucket". It's a really catchy song with fun lyrics. In Martina's case, the question is much more difficult. With Waking Up Laughing I went from simply liking her to really loving her. And the more I grow to love her and her music, it is becoming more and more difficult to pick a favorite song. Like its really hard for me to pick a favorite Beatles song. It's almost impossible. If I can pick a couple of favorite Martina songs I am going to go with "Anyway", "How I Fell", "Where Would You Be" and "Wrong Again". :)

What is your favorite current TV show?

What is your favorite TV from the past?

My favorite current TV show is Life On Mars. Infact it is the only current show that I watch. I like the concept of a man somehow being transported back in time to 1973. I love the 70's and think it would be really cool to some morning wake up and it's 1973! The show also stars Harvey Kietel, who is one of my all time favorite actors.

My all time favorite show is Star Trek-Deep Space Nine. I've seen every episode at least 20 times and with the exception of a number of first and second season episodes, I never tire of them. DS9 was one of the first shows to have a continuing storyline where the events of one episode would effect future episodes. This is pretty common place now, but before DS9 and The X-Files it was pretty rare if not unheard of. DS9 was the best acted of all the Star Trek shows and it had some of the best character development of any show,

Why is your username "Waking Up Laughing?"

Waking Up Laughing is the name of Martina McBride's last album. It was released in 2007. The title comes from a lyric in the song "How I Feel, "when you wake up laughing just because". I think it just it's a very good additude towards life. You can wake up sad, you can wake up angry or you can wake up laughing. :)

In 2003 Nick at Nite was showing reruns of Charles In Charge but they always skipped the first (and by far best) season. It may have been because the first season was broadcasted on CBS where as the following seasons were shown in first run syndication. In some ways it was like two totally different shows and I think that is the way that Nick may have looked at it. Anyway, I was trying to find out if Nick was going to get around to season one because I really wanted to retape those episodes because my copies were from way back in '84 and '85 and were in terrible shape. I did a Google search on Charles In Charge and found my way here. I signed up so that I could make a thread to ask if anyone knew if Nick was going to show season one. A very young man named Bret Ferino said that they were. Bret lied! In 2006 the first season came out on DVD, so in the end it didn't matter. What a long answer to such a simple question, huh?

I work from 9 to 5:30 so all my free time is in the evenings and on weekends. However, since I work at a computer, I often post during the afternoon. Don't tell my boss though. Just kidding. We're allowed to go online if things are slow. During my sparetime, I read, watch movies and TV and listen to music. I also write, but not as often as I used. I also play the guitar. When we can all find the time, I go out with friends but this has become less and less as we have become older and busser. Though 2008 was my most social year in quite a while.

My favorite actors are Al Pacino, Steve McQueen, Robert DeNiro, Harvey Kietel, Patrick Stewart, Jimmy Stewart, Sean Connery and William Shatner. My favorite actresses are Lisa Whelchel, Jami Gertz, Terry Farrell, Grace Kelly, Natalie Portman, Nancy McKeon, Ingrid Bergman and Kirsten Dunst.

I work at a Community College. I worked in the registration office from November '07 to November '08 and then transfered to the Social Sciences department. I get benifits and earn $15 an hour. I have a four year degree in Early American History and am working towards a master's in hopes that I can be a professor of American history. For a while I actually told a few people here that I only finished two years of college because for a while I was ashamed that I had a four year degree but was working at a job (and still am) that only requires a high school diploma.

I actually don't live in Chicago. I live in a suburb named Schaumburg which is about 45 miles out from Chicago. I was born in Chicago but only lived there until I was two and a half.

I read in Martina's eletter last Monday that Shine is coming out on March 24th! I'll get it the first day out. :D Sadly though, if she tours, I may not be able to go see her. :( I'm moving out into my own apartment (FINALLY!) in March and I may not have the money to go see her live.

That must be pretty exciting to be getting your own apartment! Apparently, she doesn't want to tour until she has another single or two released from the new album, so she might not tour until late summer or early fall. Though, she may do a few dates here and there until then.

I hope that she does decide to wait before going out on tour. Than I would get the chance to see her. Also, if she does tour and it is a longer tour like the WUP tour, even if I miss the first show I'll almost certainly be able to see the second show. I actually missed the first show on the WUP tour because I didn't even know that there was a show. It was I think in July '07 and this was before I recieved her weekly eletter or knew about her website. I woke up one morning, was looking through the newspaper and read that she was playing a show that very night and it was sold out.

I know you have a passion for British history and history in general; what era did you find the most intriguing?

If you could live any where in the word, where would it be and why?

Where do you see in yourself ten years from now?

What was your favorite subject in American history?

Since, you and I share an ardent love for music, if you were a musician, what instrument, would you be interested in playing?

Any great piece of writing inspires me. Whether its a book, a song lyirc or a movie screenplay. I think being able to write well is a talent very few people have. Especially since the invention of email, websites and chat rooms. Being able to use icons (:) :( :o :D ) has made it easier for people to put emotions down without writing a single word and as a result people are becoming lazy writers and writing as an art form is dying out.

Dog person all the way. Though I have grown to like cats thanks to Jessie and Kelly. :)

I hate chicken, believe it or not. Even the smell of it turns my stoamch.

I just drive into the next town.

If I could travel back to any place or time it would be unquestionably the writing of the Declaration of Independence. Which I might add is an example of writing as an art form. If it were today, Thomas Jefferson would simply send King George an email. ;)

What was your favorite subject in American history?

Since, you and I share an ardent love for music, if you were a musician, what instrument, would you be more interested in playing?

I think my favorite period in British history is the Age of Elizabeth. In an era of "absolute monarchy", she was definitely an absolute monarch. She was also an example of a great female leader. She proved that a woman could run a country as well, if not better, than a man.

I would love to live in England. It's a country with a great history and I also think there is something romantic about England. Also, look what they contributed to pop culture through music (the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Bee Gees, the Stones, Elton John, Eric Clapton, ext.) and movies (Alfred Hitchcock, James Bond).

I really want to be teaching history at the college level in ten years. I also would like to be married, have children and a nice house.

My favorite subject in American history is anything having to do with the American Revolution and the years leading up to it. I think it was the most fascinating time ever. Its truly amazing that a group of colonies was able to defeat a huge empire. Also, I think the founding fathers were the greatest generation of men in the history of this country.

I played bass drum in the junior high and high school band and was really very good, so I would probably be a drummer. Also, since I'm shy I would like the fact that I woudn't have to be front and center. I play guitar but my playing is only average. I also had piano lessons as a kid and can play pretty good renditions of "Imagine" and "November Rain" though overall I'm certainly no Billy Joel.

What food did you hate as a child that you had to eat?

I hated plenty of foods as a child, but there was nothing I was forced to eat. My parents never made my sisters and I eat a food we didn't like. I should add though that they didn't make dinners around what we would or would not eat. And if we didn't eat what was served we didn't get desert.

Great answers to my early round of Qs..... I see we share a love of history!

Batman in the black "movie" suits, or the classic grey and blue?

When you were small, did you read the box as you ate your morning cereal?

As a musician, do you think MP3 file sharing is a good or bad thing?

ok...I can't resist asking a history question:

Of these , which "Nation building" event was the most important in making the USA?....
a) The Louisianna purchase
b) The building of the Erie Canal which linked NY to the great lakes
c) "Seward's Folly" (The Alaska purchase) or...
d) The Union Pacific railway
You can give a brief explanation of your answer, if you like :)

Thanks. :) Everyone's questions have been really good.

I never like the Batman series. Even as a kid I thought it was corny. Also, the only Batman film that I have seen is the 1989 one which I only saw once (in the theater) and thought was way overrated.

Yeah, I do remember reading the back of the cereal box.

You know what, I don't know the difference between an MP3 player and an ipod. I guess that answers the question for you. I don't see the point in downloading music when I have such a large collection of CDs. I think it would be a waste of money to go go out and buy an ipod player simply to download songs I already have on CD. I think that's just silly. Like a person would not go out and buy the paperback copy of a book that they already have in hardcover. There are also artisit arguments against downloading. Beatles albums should, for example, be listened to exactly the way they were recorded with the songs in the order that they were placed on the records and CDs. Sgt Pepper wouldn't work as well if the songs weren't played in the order that they are on the CD. If you played the songs in different orders, with other songs thrown in, the whole point of the album is lost.

The Louisianna purchase, without question. It doubled the size of the United States. I also think it was probably Thomas Jefferson's greatest contribution as a president.

I think Obama will succeed. :)

Wow, I haven't really give too much thought about Putin. I've heard people talk about how with him in power, it could lead to another cold war. Many people believe it will. I'm not sure though. I don't know if Russia is the military threat that they were during the first cold war, and I think that is a big factor.

I bought the soundtrack to Flashdance in 1983 when I was seven years old. That was an LP. In 1984 I bought Thriller by Michael Jackson on cassette. The only other LP I ever bought was Born in the USA. I have all three on CD now. I still have the Flashdance and Springsteen LPs though. I read some Facts of Life fanfics and I've read Jenny's (Family Ties Forever!) Family Ties fanfics. I like reading them. I don't like writing them though. I have written several FOL fanfics (one of which I've been working on for over a year) and one Square Pegs one. As I mentioned, I really don't like writing fanfics too much. I love to write, but one of the things I like most about writing is creating and developing my own characters, which you can't really do with fanfics. Also, I like writing more adult drama which is something you can't do with a FOL fanfic. I love the show, but it doesn't really represent my style of writing.

I have written some fan fiction too, LITB (Leave It To Beaver, 7th Heaven, Law & Order). I can come up with ideas and stuff but I have a friend who looks over the grammar stuff and punctuations.

I like to read some fan fictions but there is a line that I won't cross as to reading it and that's slash type, incest stories. I can't stomach those kinds of stories.

Blackadder was a Britcom that parodied several eras in British history, including the Elisabethan

I believe that Shakespeare was much like Walt Disney, if you worked for him, his name went on your work....I believe that for the prestige of having a play presented at the Globe, several playwrites were persuaded by Shakepeare to put his name on their plays in order to get them onstage.

I think the Armada was a combination of both heroism AND luck :)
