View Full Version : How Old Are We?

I don't remember when I joined this forum, but it was probably a few years ago. I'm here so rarely I don't know if I can find that info (nice) -- in fact, I've been posting more on the Wings board at IMDB. There's a nice, long "fave quotes" thread going over there that I add to once every couple months. (I think this forum here went away for awhile, didn't it?)

Anyway, how old are all of you Wings fans? I've been wondering how many new and/or younger fans this show has attracted (since every episode is on YouTube now and seven seasons are available on DVD), and whether or not most of us are folks who saw its first run in prime time. I'm 44 and got hooked at the end of Season 1 in 1990 when I was 26. (The Antonio character helped hook my boyfriend two years later). It's always been my favorite sitcom.

And I seriously have a problem (ha)! Since I got seasons 1-5 on DVD over a year ago (and pre-ordered the last two seasons before they came out), I swear I watch at least two episodes to wind down on the nights I don't go out or work late. That amounts to a good 6-8 episodes per week. :dizzy: In constant rotation, these things are... there's always a disc in the DVD player. Since I got them in Dec/07 I've watched the first five seasons easily seven times through. And I still laugh out loud at lines I've heard dozens of times. (And some of those have found their way into my every-day life... I've actually thrown the "veal shank" and Lewis & Clark "first light" ones out a few times in various forms.)

Do current tv choices just really bite? Somebody else has to watch it as regularly as I do or I am just a serious kook. Please reveal yourselves!

I'm 27 now, and I first became a serious "Wings" fan the summer after I graduated high school. So I was 18 back then.

And NO ONE who loves Wings is a kook, lol.

I'm 33 now. I didn't watch Wings on its original run on NBC. The only episode I saw was on its original air date was sadly the series finale. I remember liking it but it was too late. Later on, I was lucky enough to catch it on USA network and watched it every chance I got. Then I moved overseas for 2 years and totally forgot it until I was on youtube and saw a Joe and Helen video that sparked my fond memeries of the show. Needless to say I started rewatching the whole episodes in order on youtube and was hooked again. Actually, I'm even a bigger fan now. It's one of those shows that gets better and better the more you watch it. I don't know, it's hard to explain. I remember really liking it back when I saw it on the USA network in the early 2000s but now I'm like really, really addicted to the show. I guess I really love it now b/c I watch how the characters care for one another, their facial expressions, and how they interact with one another. I guess you can say that now I really picked up on the fact that Wings has heart and after realizing this I don't see why the show was so underated in its original run.

Just turned 44 this month. I am a fossil!

I may have missed the very earliest few episodes originally, but Wings was one of my favorite series when it first ran. I remembered Crystal Bernard from Happy Days and It's a Living. I thought it was a funny and interesting show, so I kept watching. In tandem with Cheers, Wings was able to pull in a lot of viewers, and it became deservedly popular.

Wings really should get more attention today than it does, but unfortunately there are lots of series of the past that are in great need of being rediscovered. Over at the TV.com site, there are some much older shows for which I'm casting the first rating for a given episode -- despite the fact that the older series I'm watching may have been highly ranked when it first aired. Availability on DVD will be a big help in catching up with the great stuff of the past and seeing its merits.

Hmm, well, after seeing some of the other ages here, guess saying I'm 33 isn't so bad *ducks flying shoes*

TreeTrout, you are perfectly within society's mental parameters for as much Wings as you watch. It's becoming more accepted among the world, that an initial indifference towards Wings soon morphs into love. Everyone goes through it in life ;).

Yes, you are correct in tv "biting". Flooded with reality glop (a show about dog grooming??????), the sitcom is a dead art. And the few available just don't capture that warm, workplace feel of Wings.

I tend to rotate my reruns (right now I'm on Night Court), but my Wings kick comes every 2 years or so. Then I buzz-saw though all 8 seasons, get a crush on Crystal Bernard all over again, and dread the finale, because I have to say goodbye to Nantucket all over again.

I'll be 48 come March (YIKES) and watched Wings from the very first episode to the last. I don't have any DVDs, but always like catching it whenever its on.

I hope Darket was kidding - that was rather mean. It's great that you still enjoy the show that much! :)

Her work on the series It's A Living is a must for fans. Crystal's hair was very long and she looked gorgeous! Skimpy outfit!

I am 44.6. I think I started watching Wings in its second season. Took me a bit to get hooked. My most vivid memory is watching reruns on USA every night at 7 and 730. Once I got hooked, I remember on Tuesdays (?) being able to watch three in a row--the two on USA and the one on NBC.

Still my favorite show of all time, no doubt. The blend of characters made it awesome. Favorite had to be Lowell though.

Wow, I don't feel so old now because I'm 4...*cough cough*.

No, I'm 43, but I get told alot that I look younger.

I started watching Wings in primetime but didn't watch from the beginning. I do remember the 1st ep I saw was Ladies who Lunch.

Hey Craig, I see you're from Tampa. I live on the other side of Fla, between Orlando & Cocoa Beach. In fact, we're going to be in Tampa on Sat. In the morning we're going to the Super Bowl Breakfast, then we got tickets for the NFL Experience. I know I'm just going to "love" the huge crowds there!!

So 27 seems to be the youngest (at least of people who post here). I love this one:

I am 44.6.

Ha! Is that what's done post 40 -- like the "months" thing with babies before they're 2?
