"The American Idol Experience" is set to open in February 2009 at Disney's MGM Studios.
It is opening in the spot of the former "ABC-TV Theater" which was mainly used for Super Soap Weekend, an event that has been discontinued recently.
Before becoming the "ABC-TV Theater" that spot was known for the "Super Star Television" attraction where theme park guests re-encacted scenes from classic tv sitcoms; such as the "Chocolate Factory Scene" from I Love Lucy.
Guests who participate will go through a series of singing rounds judged by the official attraction judges and voting from the audience. The winner of each contest gets a "Dream Ticket" that allows them to go to next American Idol try-outs on the program; bypassing the normal auditions everyone else has to go to. The stage will be an exact replica as the one used on the show.
