View Full Version : Cosgrove Muerer not helpful AT ALL! Where can I find Update Music?
Consumer007 01-15-2009, 03:20 PM I was simply trying to find an mp3 track of the background UPDATE music to the original UM 80's show. I wrote first in on the official site and they just repeatedly said "can't help you" Then I called up Cosgrove Muerer as they were the producers and certainly should know who produced the music and how I could get it.
This is not defamatory, it is what happened. Nikki Marshall who is the current producer over there, I leave her nice voice mail, she ignores it. I call her back today and she is like "oh no, that's a stupid request, we never release any show music. Ever, even for pay."
All I frickin want to do is play and enjoy this music without talking on top of it, and use it for a private art project with friends. What is so stupid about that?
Shows release their music all the time on soundtracks.
Nikki - I'm so sure - how DARE we fans actually want the music from a show. It's not that you can't find this out or help me, it's that you WON'T. You know, people like you should not have jobs in a bad economy, you should be collecting scraps from the gutter.
__________
If anyone else knows how I can get this music your help is appreciated.
justins5256 01-15-2009, 03:47 PM I've never had a need to do this but I believe there is certain software out there that can be used to remove speech/singing from a song so that you just get the music. It might be easier for you to try something like that.
The main theme is out there, but I don't know about the specific "update" music.

Wow if she actually called your request "stupid" in a professional phone conversation than really how "Mickey Mouse" can they get? Wow thats just being unprofessional at a very high degree.
I will say this for them as far as releasing or liscensing music to a third party goes its a far more complex issue than I first thought. Some of these companies no longer even have the rights to some of the music they once had available to them. Some good examples would be a lot of the dvd releases of television shows that now feature generic music instead of the music originally featured. So it is quite complex so in a way I'm not surprised she was unable to help you. She shouldn't have been so abrupt with you though.
nohwheregirl 01-15-2009, 04:54 PM I wouldn't expect them to release their music even for money, but that was really rude to call your request "stupid."
everybodylovesrs 01-15-2009, 07:05 PM Not shocking, after how they have destroyed the show in its present condition with lame Farina and sketchy details. And wont air missing kids cases like the Baskins because it's parental abduction (actually, grandparents abducted them, idiot). They dont sound like theyre really in this for helping solve cases anymore but to make lots and lots of money
Old School TV 07-30-2009, 12:01 AM That is just the tip of the iceberg for SOME hollywood types. I know someone who was with a friend actor during the eagle eye filming with Shia Labeaouf. The actor worked with people like russell crowe who were cool with him; but he just hi or good evening to Shia and he responded with a bunch of F bombs. Listen to Christian Bale's rant on a cinematographer and that is indicative of the temperament of certain hollywood egos.
I think the UM Update music is a good ringtone, kind of like an allegro con brio movement of the Jeopardy theme music which is more like Adagio.
Ironically, i once was given a number that use to belong to a composer and received numerous calls by soap operas and tv shows requesting to use music for their shows, i eventually had to get the number disconnected. Didn't want to end up like the dude from L' enfant.
I agree with EveryonelovesRS, they were looking for the best money deal with Spike, and they definitely were on the winning side.
Orgazmo 07-30-2009, 04:41 AM not surprised about this, UM refuse to release more DVDs and the new UM is a joke. Its not even on most of the time
Mastermind 07-30-2009, 09:04 AM Perhaps you should try contacting the composers of the music themselves. I forget their names but you should be able to find them.
They should have the copyright to their own compositions.
I should also mention that quite a lot of the music is not necessarily that difficult to re-create on a synthesizer.
I think I know of a couple of places where people have posted midi files of the UM music.
Apostapler 07-30-2009, 10:38 AM The original music was written by Gary Remal Malkin. The opening theme was written by Gary Remal Malkin and Michael Boyd. Malkin's name is very searchable on google with a lot of results.
