View Full Version : Have any of you guys ever been to Canada?
Big C 01-14-2009, 05:32 AM Have any of you guys ever been to the Great White North?
I grew up in Buffalo, which is right by the Canadian border. I've visited a couple of areas in Canada- Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Edmonton.
I have always had great love and respect for our neighbors up North- that country loves hockey.
It's a contrast from living in Wisconsin, where it's impossible to find a lot of people who love that great game.
Believe me, there's a better chance you'll see Ramona wearing an Arizona Cardinals jersey than me finding a diehard NHL fan in Wisconsin- I happen to live in one of the few states that doesn't know about pro hockey.
Anyway, if you guys have been there, please share your stories.
Wreckless 01-14-2009, 05:40 AM I have never been their. I don't know if I would want to. Canadians are cool, I just never thought about it.
I think they have a lot of disrespect for the USA and Americans in general. They booed the US National Anthem when NHL american teams would play in canada/canadian arenas, and they have that ignorant "me, myself" attitude, but then again I don't know many canadians.
I do love a lot of things in canada or that have to do with canada
canada dry- Ginger Ale & occassionally the Green Tea CD
Canadian Bacon. Not too found of it but has an interesting and nice taste to it
Hockey
ice- I like ice in my drink
I don't have any interesting or in-depth story, but there ya go.
Theda Bara 01-14-2009, 05:42 AM Yes, I have been to British Columbia (Victoria Island, Vancouver, etc.) One of the most beautiful places I have ever been to (absolutely stunning). I would love to visit Ontario. I know a couple of special people (that I adore) that live in that province...
Penny Lane 01-14-2009, 10:30 AM I live in Michigan and I have been in Canada many times!
It's beautiful! Except for the black flies which we have here in Northern Mich. I live near Flint in mid state. I am only an hour west from the Blue Water bridge that goes to Sarnia, Ontario. We have camped in Canada many times. Now we need a passport to get in there.
I haven't been to Canada in about 10 years but hopefully will get back there some day.
MonarC 01-14-2009, 10:50 AM I have been to Niagra Falls. It's Gorgeous.

PZelda 01-14-2009, 04:55 PM Believe it or not, I live in a state that borders Canada... But the last time I went to Canada was 11 years ago. I did Saskatchewan and Manitoba that summer. Sigh...
HuntingtonM15 01-14-2009, 04:58 PM Since I live so close to Detroit, I've been to Windsor many times. I've also been to Toronto twice.

Yes, I've been to Niagara Falls (gorgeous!!) but haven't gone in years. I'd like to go back. I've also been to French Canada (Quebec). The last time I was in Canada was a weekend in Toronto back in the summer of 1999.
browneyes106 01-14-2009, 05:26 PM I might go there is summer with my boyfriend because his family goes up there for hunting/fishing trips.

JamesG 01-14-2009, 05:38 PM In 2004 my family and I went on a Carnival Cruise to Halifax, Nova Scotia. We were in Canada for a few hours, enough to do one tour, and then had to go back on the boat.
I've been to Canada but not actually "been there", you know.
MickeyMac 01-14-2009, 05:47 PM Been to Windsor a few times(its only a couple hours away from Kalamazoo). Its a really nice city I think. Frankly I dont feel Canadians are disrespectful towards Americans. When I was up there people were very friendy and respectful.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 01-14-2009, 07:11 PM I have been to Niagra Falls. It's Gorgeous.

Me too, awhile back.
Marvo301 01-14-2009, 07:29 PM Wreckless, please don't let a few drunken sports fan colour your opinion of all Canadians. That really doesn't represent what we're really like. In fact Canadians have a reputation for being some of the friendliest, kindest, most generous people in the world. I hope you get the opportunity to visit Canada sometime and experience the true Canadian spirit. We can offer you some of the world's most spectacular scenery, great fishing (or is that sea kittening?), and all the poutine you can eat!!!!!

Well, during the 1987 pennant race, I was at a Jays game and fans of the Detroit Tigers booed Canada's anthem, right in OUR stadium; so, sports fans boo both ways!
I live in Canada about a 25 mind drive from the falls....not that big a deal to me; they look best in winter when that mist covers everything in clear ice!!!
Ohio8 11-30-2012, 11:38 PM Niagara Falls: 1968 and 2005.
Windsor: 1981 and 2001.
treky 12-01-2012, 01:15 AM I was in Canada many, many years ago in 1968 for a week with the boy scouts. We had an exchange program where a canadian boy scout came down here and lived with my family for a week and went to school etc. with me. Then a few months later; I went up there and lived with his family, etc. for a week
Zoneboy 12-01-2012, 02:52 AM Been to Canada once and that was in 1978. My brother and our grandparents went to visit our great aunt and uncle in Flint Michigan and they took us to Boblo Island amusement park in Ontario.

I was there the same year as you. But my family took us on one of the "Maid of the Mist" boats and got splashed by Niagara Falls. My brothers and I also ran around the city itself.
On the US side, I learned of the Robert Moses State Parkway, which is completley different from the Robert Moses Causeway, and like the Causeway it's not complete(The Causeway needs a second bridge between Captree and Robert Moses State Parks).
PZelda 12-01-2012, 12:33 PM I STILL haven't been back to Canada since '98. I think a bunch of us northerners need to get together and fly to somewhere in Canada for like a week. I vote Toronto! :D
MrCleveland 12-01-2012, 12:42 PM I was there when I was a baby and in 2005. I was in Lakefield in 1983 and In Niagara in 2005...I hope to return to Niagara one day.
MickeyMac 12-03-2012, 01:17 PM Just been to Windsor. In some ways its an upscale version of Detroit, but still a fun town to hang out in.
Vahan 12-03-2012, 02:57 PM Yes, I've been to Vancouver a couple years ago. Beautiful city. It's everything here in Los Angeles is, minus the smog.
Coffeecup 12-03-2012, 08:19 PM If I go I need a new passport. Another place I would like to see.
Yooch 12-04-2012, 03:55 PM Never. But it is on my 'To Visit' list.
a.rusty.catheter 12-06-2012, 02:28 PM No and I have no desire to go.
