I just got an email indicating this aired on Spike today. Is this true? Did anyone watch?

This is the one where the in-laws sued the husband and details of the settlement were not disclosed? At the end they mentioned that her headstone was repeatedly vandalized and then finally replaced with one that listed only her maiden name.

yes...it was on this afternoon. ...it aired at 4pm CST.

This one was another puzzler. Do I think the hubby was involved? There was no evidence. The fact that his schedule deviated once isn't much of a motive. He did seem to make an effort to have a lot of different people see him that morning but again that does not a murder make.

What was up with the headstone getting vandalized?

I remember all the original episodes from the first run (I just turned 44) but this one I don't remember at all!

I don't think I recall this one from the old episodes, but I assume that if it was on, they did a better job. The splice and dice Spike eppie didn't really offer any proof one way or the other IMHO. It seemed the parents were the ones claiming he killed their daughter, but I didn't see the proof. (Although I would have expected the husband to be more distraught over his wife's death...) I'm wondering if there wasn't more presented in the original eppie that either implicated him clearly or at least gave more details or additional leads. I guess I really felt like something was left out??

this segment aired in UM's first season (88-89) and was never reran on Lifetime, so that may be why it doesn't seem familiar.

I think this is a story where there is a lot more (and I do mean A LOT) that is unsaid about the couple, both individually and as a couple.

Yes he did do that. I am just now reading this story on the UM site. That to me seems very fishy that he would go & do that.

I just watched the NBC version of this story. I'm not sure what to think truthfully. This really boils down to "he said she said" type antics with the husband and the in-laws slinging various allegations back and fourth. The in-laws really seem to believe that Stephen Geri killed their daughter, but I'm not so sure.

* The in-laws say the marriage was Hell for Marilu.

Stephen said the years he and Marilu spent together were very good and it was the best relationship he had ever had with "an individual" (I thought his phrasing was kinda weird in that regard, who refers to their wife as an "individual"?)

* Marilu's mother claims that when she found Marilu's body, there were various pieces of expensive jewelry laid out on a dresser as if Marilu was trying to decide which piece to wear when she was interrupted by the killer(s). The jewelry wasn't touched. If the motive was burglary, why was the jewelry left behind?

Stephen Geri claims that close to 40k in jewelry, fur coats and other valuables were missing from the house.

* Marilu's parents hired a private investigator. The PI attempted to verify Stephen's alibi. Stephen left the house very early that morning. The PI claimed this was unusual as it was not Stephen's routine. The PI also stated that Stephen returned to the same places the following day (the day after the murder) to make sure the people who saw him the day prior remembered seeing him.

Stephen had an airtight alibi for the time of the murder as he left the house very early that morning and ran various errands. The way I see it, the guy is a suspect in a murder and knows he has an alibi that can clear him. Why not go back and make sure that he was spotted the day of the murder? It seems stupid in hindsight I guess, and he probably should have let the police follow up on that but I didn't find it that unusual if he was trying to clear himself early on.

Stephen had a gun collection. He voluntarily handed every one of his guns over to the police for testing. None matched the murder weapons.

In addition, there was a civil suit tied to this case. Stephen had taken out a life insurance policy against his wife and himself. After Marilu was murdered, Stephen tried to cash in on her portion of the insurance and Marilu's parents blocked him through legal action. A settlement was apparently reached pre-trial, so the matter never went to a jury.

Stephen said his attorneys approached him and said that Marilu's family offered to settle.

Marilu's family vehemently denies this claim.

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed in the segment. There were apparently some judgments against Stephen and it was claimed that he enjoyed living the "high life".

Finally, someone repeatedly vandalized and eventually stole Marilu's headstone until a new one was put in place with just her maiden name.

I'm not sure what to think. He definitely could have had a financial motive. However, I really don't think the evidence is even close to being strong enough to take any action against the husband, much less to get a conviction. So, he's innocent until proven otherwise.

As a sidenote, this was apparently one of those segments that never made it to Lifetime but was shown on Spike. They talked a lot about the settlement, which was forbidden by the court at the time so I wonder if this was the reason.

I could go either way on this one, but I'm slightly leaning towards guilt. Stephen Geri is just completely devoid of any emotion in the interview.

I think what really bothers me is that this happened on a day where he broke from his routine, and that he claimed he was "extremely busy", but his errands were going to the donut shop? 7-11? "talking with a guy for a minute" eh, doesn't sound extremely busy to me. When I think of busy, I think of people doing lots of important stuff, not running a few simple and quick errands.

I see what you're saying. However, we don't know what he had lined up for the rest of the day. Maybe he did have an important meeting early, and he wanted to get the mundane stuff (like the donut shop) out of the way. Unfortunately, they don't really touch on what he did the rest of the day, other then the fact that he was in the company of many different people.

I noticed that he mentioned turning the burglar alarm on before he left. I thought that was interesting. Assuming a burglary gone wrong scenario is what took place here, Marilu would have had to turn the alarm off herself. Or the burglars defeated it somehow. Or, he lied and did not turn it on.

We have a burglar alarm in our apartment. If I leave the apartment before my wife, I always disarm it before I leave (so as not to set if off) and arm it again before going out the door, so she will be safe alone. However, she isn't going to turn it off and re-arm it until she leaves. So, the alarm is still active while she moves about the apartment.

When Marilu was found, she was in a bathrobe only and her jewelery was on a dresser as if she was deciding what to wear. If she was planning on showering and then dressing for the day, why would she turn the alarm off? Isn't that a time when she would have been most vulnerable(?) - when she was showering and/or getting dressed.

I don't know much about burglar alarms, but I would gather that they are pretty difficult to defeat for the average Joe type burglar.

That leaves one other possibility - he didn't turn the alarm on, but he lied about it. Why? To make himself look like the concerned safety conscious husband? To cover his tracks?

I'm not sure where I'm going with this, I just find it peculiar...

What did you think of the headstone being vandalized?

As crazy this may sound, I thought of her family here. I could see them not wanting his name associated with her since they obviously hated the guy.

Something else I picked up on... it was not only Valentine's Day, but Marilu's mother's birthday. If he did kill Marilu, that is very cruel to do it on such an occasion. He must have had some serious issues with the mother-in-law and Marilu's family if that is the case.

I definitely think Stephen Geri is responsible for his wife's murder. I think the fact she was murdered on Valentine's Day was pretty significant. Pretty coincidental and unlikely a burglar would strike early in the morning too. There are a lot of things that point to him. His routine varied a lot that morning than usual and he left much earlier than he normally did. He goes to all these places and makes sure people see him (even going back soon after and reminding them he was in there) getting his alibi set. He calls her mother and asks her to go help Marilu with whatever she was doing. The mother didn't say but I'm thinking this was not the norm considering their cool relationship. No doubt he thought it would look better for him if he didn't find her body and wouldn't be normal for him to go back to his house that morning since he had such a busy day. Stephen painted their marriage a little too rosy if you ask me. Gushed about how wonderful they were when the mother says the exact opposite. I tend to believe her version. He was also deep in debt and Marilu was heavily insured. I lean towards that Stephen Geri hired hitmen to kill his wife. That would explain him leaving early (so as to not be there when they showed up), why the door was left open and why she was killed with two different guns (2 shooters). I don't believe he called her at 7 am and she was "busy, busy" and I wonder if phone records ever verified this call. The headstone destruction was always baffling to me. I can't see her parents vandalizing it so maybe Stephen's hired men did it but for what reason I don't know. I also don't believe that Marilu's parents were the one that asked for the settlement in the insurance case that Stephen wants you to think. They would have no reason and he probably figured he'd cut his losses and at least get something out of it. He was no doubt counting on the entire $400,000+ after she died because soon after his settlement, he declares bankruptcy. I agree there's not enough evidence to convict him but I definitely think he's responsible for her death.

On a side note the person that sent this episode to me did say that Marilu's parents are still alive. Both are 85.

Interesting analysis, CD.

I found some articles about the case that I posted a few years ago on this thread...

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=194504&highlight=marilu

An excerpt from the 12/21/88 Houston Chronicle...

"Last year, Stephen Geri was indicted for felony theft of $200,000 from a Houston savings association. The case is still pending."

I wonder how this turned out. It wasn't mentioned on the segment, that I recall.

Also, from 2/14/88...

a quote from a Sgt Jerry Clements...

``There was a table knocked over in the hall, but really nothing else was messed up in the house,'' Clements said. Although some drawers were pulled out in the bathroom, nothing was missing from the house.

This is a total contradiction to Stephen Geri's assertion that about 40k worth of valuables were stolen. I wonder what the truth in the matter really is.

Also, the settlement terms of the civil suit were not to be disclosed for two years. I found an article indicating that the civil suit was settled in May of '87. The terms of the suit should have become available to the public long ago. I wonder if one of our diligent legal researchers could find the terms of the settlement, and possibly who asked for it.

I forgot to mention that point in my initial post. I think he just made up that all the valuables were stolen in order to pad the insurance and have a bigger payday.

I hadn't considered that. I figured he made it up to bolster his claim that this was a burglary gone bad.

The more I think about this, the more that I think Stephen is innocent. Is there any real proof that he murdered his wife?

I know they had financial problems and insurance policies in place, but so do a lot of couples. The insurance policy was a joint policy as I recall. Also, didn't the Geris sell or work in the insurance business? If so, it wouldn't be unusual for them to have a policy as they probably know more about the merits of having such policies than the average Joe and they may have been able to get discounts/better deals or perks along those lines (just speculating here),

In addition, it was mentioned on the segment that Stephen had several thousand dollars in judgments against him and was forced to declare bankruptcy some time after the settlement. The segment makes it seem like he was broke or at least on the verge of going broke. If he had hired help kill his wife, how would he have paid them?

The tombstone vandalism is certainly strange and might suggest that whoever did it had an immense hatred of Marilu Geri. However, notice how the vandalism stopped after Stephen Geri's sirname was removed from the headstone. I wonder if the perpetrator could have been a friend or family member of Marilu who had such an immense hatred of Stephen (likely because they believed him to be guilty), so they vandalized the headstone because

a.) they didn't want his name associated with Marilu or

b.) to lend credence to the Serrato's lawsuit by making it appear as though Stephen was responsible for the vandalism.

Even if Stephen Geri did ask for the settlement, it really doesn't say anything about his guilt or innocence, in my opinion. He may have just wanted to dispose of the lawsuit quickly and move on with his life.

I still think he's responsible. All the red flags are there. Heavily in debt, wife is heavily insured. Actions differ on the morning of the murder than was his usual routine so as to make sure he wasn't in the house and making sure to set up an alibi by going to several public places and even going back and reminding people he was there. He was in debt but could have had jewelry or other property to give a hitman. Perhaps even some of the property he claims was stolen in the "robbery".

The headstone vandalism is still a mystery. I understand your theory about possible friends or relatives not wanting Stephen's name on the stone but not sure if they would go the lengths of destroying the headstone because after all that was Marilu's stone too.

All signs point to Stephen Geri having a hand in Marilu's murder.

-He coincidentally changes his morning routine on the exact day his wife gets brutally murdered in a "robbery attempt gone wrong".
-He had a substantial life insurance policy on his wife and was apparently in a large amount of debt around the same time his wife was murdered.
-He went out of his way to re-visit the places he stopped on the morning of his wife's death to remind them that he had been there the morning before.
-In the re-enactment (I don't know how accurate it is), he asked for receipts at every place he purchased something at.
-He claims to have left his house at 6:25-6:30 a.m. and then went straight to the 7-Eleven store. He arrived at the store at 6:57 a.m., and the store was only two blocks away from his home. He should have arrived there in less than five minutes.
-He called his mother-in-law to run over to his house to help Marilu prepare for a party, and this is when her body was found. Why wouldn't Marilu just phone her mother for help? Doesn't this seem highly suspicious?

While there is really no physical evidence pointing to Stephen Geri, I think the holes and inconsistencies in his story definitely cast a considerable cloud of suspicion over him. While I don't think he was the triggerman per se, I do think he hired some people to kill his wife for him to absolve him from the debt he had. I think he left the house disarmed or open and the intruder/s came in and murdered Marilu. Meanwhile he's going around town purposely attempting to establish an alibi to prove his "innocence". I also think this is why he called his mother-in-law to go help her with the party. He knew she was already dead, and if his mother-in-law found her that would also help establish his "alibi". The whole "settlement" thing is a non-issue, IMO. It doesn't matter who initiated the settlement, I still think Stephen Geri was the mastermind behind Marilu's death.

This one was just replayed on Lifetime and it is a puzzler. Do I think the hubby has something to do with the murder of his wife? Probably. Can they prove it? Probably not, at least with the evidence shown on UM.

One thing that annoyed me (and I know it is odd) is that her parents said she was in a living hell and Stephen was all "It was the most glorious thing EVER!"

I do not understand the grave marker vandalism. Could it have been random?

I think Stephen Geri hired a hitman and I think the hitman was trying to reach out to the parents by the vandalism of the stone (whether it was because of lack of payment or remorse, who knows) I just got the hitman vibe from the show and since there are three key eye pieces of evidence left out, It begs the question and maybe an answer!

I noticed it was mentioned that the records regarding the settlement were sealed for three years. Obviously, that would have ran out a long time ago...

Are there any legal researchers on the forum who could possibly find the original court documents and see which side requested the settlement?

Not that it would prove anything, it would just be very interesting to know.

One side has to be lying to UM, but this is a rare instance where we could possibly figure out who.

Farina version was on yesterday morning. I've only seen the NBC version maybe once or twice in my entire life, and it was probably around '10 or '11, so I made sure I was in front the TV (as Michael Scott Martin's neighborhood would say) to catch it.

I realized my opinion didn't change. I don't think there is any clearer cut instance on UM of a man hiring someone to kill his wife than Stephen Geri. There is not a single twinge of doubt in my mind. And I do think it is probably a quite solvable case.

I don't even know why the settlement is an issue. As Cars said earlier, it doesn't mater who initiated it.

I still cannot believe Stephen Geri managed to slip by on this one.

TheCars1986

The biggest red flag in this case has always been Stephen Geri calling Marilu's mother to ask her to go over to the house to help Marilu prepare for a party. Wouldn't Marilu have called her instead if she needed help? This just screams Stephen needing some sort of "alibi" to have someone other than himself "discover" Marilu. But that would not be enough to convince a jury of Stephen's guilt, but that was the first thing I noticed in the segment.

Throw in the fact that there was no forced entry, turmoil in the Geri marriage, Stephen owning a large collection of guns and Marliu being shot with two different guns (almost as if to show that it couldn't have been one of the guns Stephen owned), the oddity of Stephen going back to the places he visited the day after Marilu's murder, and his odd reaction to the settlement are all huge indicators of his guilt.

Speaking of his reaction to the settlement, he said something to the effect of he only agreed to it because he was "adamant" that he was not guilty, and that he took a shot at Marliu's parents because they agreed to settle while they believed him to be the one who murdered Marilu. Which was an odd thing to say, IMO. Shouldn't he be more worried about finding the "real" killer of Marilu instead of taking pot shots at her parents? Granted, if he's innocent (not likely), he would have reason to be angry or bitter at her parents for accusing him of killing Marilu. But there's only one real way to prove your innocence: find the real killer. Something he never actually did.

ETA: Stephen Geri has his own website.

http://stephengeri.com/family-and-community/

Notice how he says he and his current wife are an "amazing compliment to one another". Nearly the identical thing he said with regards to Marilu during the filming of the UM segment. No mention of Marilu on there.

Yeah, I can't think of another UM case in which it was obvious that a murder suspect was trying way, WAY too hard to establish their innocence. If Stephen had killed his wife, left his house at his normal time, gone to work and returned home to several hours later to find Marilu's body, it might not have seemed as suspicious. But calling Marilu's mother to go over to the house, getting receipts at all the places he frequented, and returning to all these places to remind them he had been there that morning just reeks of a guy trying to fabricate an alibi for himself.

Yeah. To me, it sounds like someone trying desperately to convince a universal audience that he is, indeed, a good person. Overcompensation. Not too different from say, running all over town reminding employees at various businesses of his whereabouts the day before, or being only too eager to hand his weapons to police to prove none of them were involved in his wife's murder.

Finally rewatched this one and my opinion hasn't changed. He's guilty.

-Stephen getting receipts. Who the hell needs receipts for DOUGHNUTS?!?! What is he going to do, return them? Judging by the luxurious house they lived in, I doubt Stephen would be squabbling over a few dollars like that. It was pretty apparent he wanted the receipts to prove he was at the places he said he was. Did he get a receipt for the cup of coffee as well?

-It should also be noted that Stephen claimed he left the house around 6:25 or 6:30. The doughnut shop he went to was 5 minutes driving time at most, which means he should have arrived between 6:30 and 6:35. The people at the doughnut shop said he arrived at 6:57, so that's a discrepancy of 22-27 minutes. He was probably killing his wife at this time.

-There were no apparent signs of forced entry. That speaks volumes.

-Not only is Stephen completely devoid of any emotion during his entire interview, but he refers to his wife as an "individual". OMG, who says that?

-I also really don't believe Stephen's claim he armed the security system before he left because it would have went off when the supposed intruder(s) broke in. Marilu was a young, attractive woman in a big city and surely wasn't going to disarm it herself.

-They were only married for a few years by that point, and most of that time the marriage was rocky, despite what Stephen claims.

-That Marilu was killed with 2 different guns is unusual. I think Stephen arranged this to make it seem like the work of 2 intruders, who had 2 different guns. If he kills her or has her killed with 1 gun, it seems more the work of a lone person, which he figures might cast suspicion on him.

-The segment talks about Stephen's supposed "airtight alibi", but there are so many pieces to it, it's difficult to get a complete picture. Apparently, the stuff he did in the later morning was backed up by several witnesses. Okay, fine, but as I mentioned above, I think he killed his wife in the early morning, and that's where parts of his alibi are disputed. It should also be noted that none of the parts of his alibi for the early morning are time consuming in the least. Getting a cup of coffee, getting doughnuts, and "talking with a guy for a minute" are all very easy and quick. I think he was running around, trying to plant himself at various points to establish he was out and about.

-What motive would anyone else have for killing Marilu? Robbery was apparently not a motive (lots of pieces of expensive jewelry laying about, etc) and she obviously wasn't sexually assaulted.

I think it's horrible that Stephen not only killed Marilu, but in the way he did it (on Valentine's Day, sending Marilu's mother over there to find the body, etc.). I think he got extremely lucky that they weren't able to determine a time of death. Because I'm sure they would have found she died earlier in the morning and not later and his alibi would have been blown right out of the water.

No doubt in my mind on this one.

I wonder if Marilu's parents are still alive. They'd both be about 90.

Stephen getting receipts.

I agree about the receipts for the donuts. Who needs them? I was always waiting for the guy at the person working at the donut shop to come on screen and say: "Yes, I remember Steven Geri! He came in that morning and announced "Hi I am here! And it is 6:37AM!! Remember that!!!" I mean, really. And calling her mom to come over was so telling: "Here, you find your daughter and then I won't be on the hook as much!"

Why do I get the feeling that if this crime happened today, Stephen would have used Facebook check-in at every location he visited that morning? He then'd constantly remind everyone that his FB feed proves he couldn't have committed the murder.

I totally believe this is the case! Before the segment was added to Amazon, I hadn't seen it in ages. I'm sure Stephen's probably now getting some unwanted attention because the segment is available for viewing again. Wow. Just saw this one for the first time (that I can recall) today. Completely obvious Stephen did it (well, hired someone to do it - if he did it himself, he would go even more over the top than he did and it would be kind of obvious then).

Someone who's going to want to get away with something like this is going to want to draw as little attention/suspicion as possible. Give the perps detailed instructions to get the job done and perhaps throw the authorities off the trail, sure. Don't under any circumstances though, alter your normal routine, let alone go back and retrace your steps at every place you visited that day.

He might as well have gotten "Guilty" inked across his forehead.

Of course I fully believe that Stephen definitely paid someone to kill his wife.

Here's an article (2001) about the Texas Rangers possibly taking over the case. To my knowledge, they didn't.

http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Texas-Rangers-unit-would-probe-unsolved-murders-2001754.php

It names "Teal Briar" as an "exclusive neighborhood" but it isn't, or at least it isn't any more. Average house is selling for about $89/sq ft which isn't 'exclusive' or 'luxury' around here. Average selling price in Teal Briar in the past few years was $240K.

(Yes, Texas real estate is cheap)

Stephen Geri is so unappealing. I am surprised he didn't look at security cameras and smile and wave. On the small chance that Stephen is innocent, he does bring up a decent point in the segment about the lawsuit: if Marilu's parents truly thought he killed their daughter, why would they settle the suit which pretty much quelled any chance they had of nailing him with a civil suit (a la OJ) showing that he was responsible for her murder? Settling the suit basically cleared Stephen from any civil action, even if more information and evidence came out which cast even more suspicion his way.

I don’t want to say to much about the settlement but he didn’t get a dime. Two previous wives he had that he “saved” were to testify against him. One tried to kill herself with a knife, and they both got cut up. The second a tv fell into the tub and a by a miracle unplugged before it went in. That occurred in New York. That’s why there was a settlement. There’s so much more but people are still scared to say more publicly, the sheriff knows it.

Only thing is witness wise I don’t see that person getting over the fear to do so. We were talking today and the only thing that would is letting him know someone saw him and who it was. Recent articles on the case indicate she was shot in the back 3 times and once in the side. Her sister made a odd comment at a recent press conference, saying, "My sister knew who killed her. My sister would never have opened the door for someone she didn't know and I don't believe for one minute my sister was taken by someone at the front door." I thought the UM segment implied that she was found dead away from the front door of their residence. This would indicate someone she knew sneaking up behind her and shooting her. If she was found near the front door, I could envision a scenario where someone knocked on the door and was let in by her before they shot and killed her. Anyway, this statement by the sister makes Stephen's claims of 25-40 thousand dollars worth of jewelry missing seem very specious.

I still contend that Stephen hired someone to kill Marilu. And if what the sister says is true, it would have been someone known to her.

Anyway, this statement by the sister makes Stephen's claims of 25-40 thousand dollars worth of jewelry missing seem very specious.

I never could rectify this to my own satisfaction. During her UM interview, Marilu's mother said there was jewelry laid out on the dresser, thus it appeared whoever entered the residence didn't intend to steal things. In his UM interview, Stephen Geri claimed that there were several thousand dollars worth of "items" or "valuables" missing from the house.

Granted, there is a ton of reason to doubt Stephen Geri's statements, but I always thought this was one that would be somewhat easy for investigators to verify or refute. In other words, if he said on UM that there were items missing, I'm just guessing that there were, because it would look suspicious if he made this statement on UM, yet claimed previously that nothing of value was taken.

I still contend that Stephen hired someone to kill Marilu. And if what the sister says is true, it would have been someone known to her.

I think there was a 20 or so minute time gap in his alibi during which the PI alleged that Geri could have been covering up the crime himself. Any thoughts on that? I ask because it would be suggestive of him doing this alone.

Stephen called his mother-in-law at 8:15 that morning, and asked her to go over and help prepare for the party. The mother then called Marilu's house and got no answer (which was odd, because she was supposed to be up prepping the house for the party). She went over to the house and saw the front door open (as per the re-enactment) and found Marilu dead in "the back of the house" (at 10:06).

Stephen says he left the house at 6:25 in the morning, and went to various places around town before calling Marilu at 7:30. From 7:30 to 10:06 he had an alibi. IMO, if he killed Marilu, he had to have done it between 6 and 7 in the morning. Which is an odd time to shoot someone 4 times, considering most people would've still been home at that time and would have heard the shots. I think when he called Marilu at 7:30 it was either to speak with the killer/s, or it was a check to see if Marilu was up yet so he could then call/signal the killers to kill her. I think he knew by 8:15, when he called his mother-in-law, that she was already dead. But I don't how he would've been able to kill her and/or dispose of evidence based off of everything known from the segment.

I agree, the thing which makes me believe Stephen hired someone to commit the murder, but did not do it himself is because the paramedics injected Marilu's heart with a medication in an attempt to revive her, a procedure which apparently made it impossible to determine her exact time of death. There's no way Stephen could have anticipated this would happen. If they had been able to determine that Marilu's time of death was before Stephen left the house that morning, then this would have destroyed his alibi, which is why the hired hit theory is more likely, IMO.

Excellent point. Plus, Stephen called his mother-in-law at 8:15. Had she went over shortly after the call and found her dead prior to 10:06, that too would've narrowed down the time of death.

I watched it when it originally aired, they wanted to film in our house but the sheriff said no way and he’d no doubt recognize it and that could set him off.

Couple other notes to add. He never left the house that early, ever. No jewelry was found missing, none. She was found in her room I believe upstairs. The ballistics show two different guns, but fired by the same person in an attempt to make it look like two but angles prove it was one. The hitman theroy could be possible, he had someone working around the house he hired.

I will say that if I was in his situation and indeed innocent, I would know that the authorities would be looking at me first, and most closely. That I had better have a solid alibi - and in fear of wrongful prosecution, might even engage in behavior similar all of his next-day visits in an attempt to ensure my alibi could be verified.

Agreed.

Coupled with Geri's completely altered morning routine and his insistence on going back the next day to those places he had visited to remind them that he was there yesterday during the hours Marilu was at home that morning, I believe it truly is a no-brainer. I guess if I think about it, I'm not surprised. It's obvious the man put a lot of work into crafting and then executing a pretty, as you said, convoluted alibi. In light of all this, I would almost expect him to have considered whether the firearms used could be traced back to him.

He's clearly not dumb, but somehow he's also painfully transparent.

I'm more amazed that nothing (that we know of, anyway) has trickled out about this case like an Elmo Florence situation where the killer outright brags about it or even in the case of the two Mary Morris murders where there are murmurs about what had happened from people in the area.

I agree that it's not overly suspicious for someone who's potentially a suspect in a murder to try and get as many alibi witnesses as possible. But Geri went back to these places the day after Marilu was murdered. That's what I find to be highly suspicious.

Anyone remember the jist of what his statement was? His websites have been taken down (though he still has his social media sites up)

Weird. Looks like he hasn’t posted anything for at least 8 months. I have to wonder if he is in poor health.

A horrible tragedy struck my family unit on Feb. 14th 1986. My wife was brutally murdered by multiple persons using multiple guns. I thank God every day that our Daughter was not a victim as well. For years, I have suffered innuendos and insinuations regarding what happened without these people having any common knowledge. The truth is no one knows, Fort Bend sheriff’s office has reviewed every scenario over the last 30 years without a clue as to how this happened.

The law suit came about because of a selfish unheralded individual trying to impress a family member. Many folks look at a website which makes statements that are taken out of context by her family and/or listen to other folks that have no knowledge as to what happened. If they did have any real knowledge, I would hope that they would please contact the Texas Rangers or Fort Bend county cold case department.

I would like to disclose something that has never been disclosed until now:

“..At the hearing to distribution of the Life Insurance proceeds, I told the judge I wanted to donate the entire amount to The American Heart Association”. This is documented by court records.

Unsolved mysteries did not present the video correctly, and I never signed a release. The service selling this video operates below the line of integrity. It is full of lies & private interpretations. No truth.

It still makes me laugh how Steve had a routine, and the one day he varies his routine a lot is the day his wife was murdered. And then he went back the next day to remind people at his alibi locations that he was there.

He continued to claim to be the victim, when we all know he was the perp. What a champ.

I can see an arrest possibly happening in this case. I hope for an arrest in this case.

If he hired someone to kill his wife, I wondered how he paid him/them? His alibi was too air tight tho, cover every stop he made. I would love to see the police report for the $25,000-$40,000 that was stolen in jewelry and fur coats. In the segment the mother stated Marilu jewelry was laid out, why the killers didn’t grab those also, it’s just laying there? Also how much fur coats cost back in the 1980’s?

Stephen gave an interview (https://ideamensch.com/stephen-geri/) a few years ago and when asked what his favorite quote was, he replied:

I’m so hungry my stomach thinks my throats been cut.

As to how he paid the killers...he could have let them make off with the jewelry or other valuables stolen from the residence. Or he could have paid them with some of the life insurance money.

I think Stephen Geri killed his wife before he left home that morning. In my opinion, the fact that he just so happened to go to half a dozen places the morning of his wife's murder shows that he had some sort of involvement in the murder. Not only that, but the PI hired by Marilu's parents uncovered the fact that he went back to each of those places to remind workers he was there the day before. It reminded me of the case of Sebastian Burns and Atif Rafay. It wasn't on UM but basically, in 1994 those two were 17-18 years old. They killed Rafay's parents and sister and then went to the movies and to a diner. At each of these stops, they were loud and obnoxious because they wanted to establish an alibi and have people remember them. They went to see The Lion King and were singing The Circle of Life very loudly then left a huge tip at a diner later that evening. I feel like Stephen Geri did something similar to ensure that multiple people saw him. I think the guns he used could have been discarded or destroyed early that morning shortly after the murder. It legit makes no sense for anyone other than him to have killed his wife or had her killed.

I think he is guilty as well. There are people like Paul Pollis who probably should have tried harder to be seen by someone the day Charlotte went missing, and there are calculated people like Stephen Geri who seem to have every detail down to a tee. It is almost too perfect.

I don't know how there weren't witnesses to all of this though. Granted it was probably done at 6am or 7am but there wasn't a neighbor that saw a car parked or a person walking up to the house or anything? Because even if he hired someone to do the job (which I suspect) you figure there might be some bread crumbs somewhere. However if he hired a professional they'd be precise.

It almost seems like the perfect murder.

This case was always obvious to me even when I was a kid that Stephen is guilty. I don't think he used a hit man. I think he killed Marilu and went out to create an alibi. Stephen seems much too controlling to hire a hit man.

I am curious what his "son" who posted on here needed help with. I am also curious about the conversation Crystaldawn may have had with him. This case would be great to include on her blog series (is she still doing those? I lost the link a while ago but I enjoyed the series).

Notice how he says he and his current wife are an "amazing compliment to one another". Nearly the identical thing he said with regards to Marilu during the filming of the UM segment. No mention of Marilu on there.

Interestingly, the Website is now defunct ten years later.

Wow its been years but my interaction with him was brief. I probably sent him a copy of the segment as it wasn't one that was shown much. I do remember him telling me he thought his dad was guilty.
