In the opening of this fun episode, Lucy pleads with Ricky to take her to visit the Macgillicutty Clan in Kiladeen, Scotland and keeps stressing that these are her mother's ancestors (not her father's- a man who is never once mentioned on the show). Lucy's mother is never known by any name other than 'Mrs. Macgillicutty so this is a bit puzzling that the writers put this in. Of course, being a 1950's sitcom (and NOT real life), it would have been unthinkable for Lucy to have born from a nonmarital union (with her mother only using the Mrs. tag to provide the appearance of respectablity for herself and her child). So the only conclusion I can come up with this that the (presumably) late Mr. Macgillicutty was Mrs.Macgillicutty's cousin! Hey, it might explain a bit about Lucy's wackiness!

 With this show, anything is possible. It seems to me that the writers were much more concerned with jokes and the like than doing a deep character history. Because look at Ethel...she went through washing machines like no one!
