View Full Version : Sweet Pickles
MonarC 01-08-2009, 07:05 PM I went to the grocery store the other day and I like to get those miniature dills to have on the side of sandwiches and burgers and such. Well I grabed the wrong jar and got 'sweet pickles' instead. The bad thing is I had no idea and I have never had those before. So when I was eating my lunch and took a bite I was like "WTF" ahhhhh! It tasted horrible. Why would anyone want a sweet pickle?
Zoneboy 01-08-2009, 07:11 PM Sweet pickles often referred to as bread and butter pickles are considered a delicacy in the south. I like them but not on a sandwich, I have to have dill pickles for those.
Cactus Jack 01-08-2009, 07:23 PM Love pickles!
robyrob 01-08-2009, 07:27 PM i hate the sweet pickles, I feel like i got ripped off whenever i accidentally bite into one - I love the dill pickles.
Chocoholic 01-08-2009, 08:06 PM More sweet pickles for me! :happyface
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 01-08-2009, 09:22 PM Ugh, I despise sweet pickles. They were all I saw in Europe when I went there. It was an outrage. I love love love dill pickles, though; I could eat them until I got sick.
catlover79 01-08-2009, 09:33 PM Yuck - I HATE sweet pickles. Give me THESE any day:

*Pleasant Tomorrow* 01-08-2009, 10:51 PM I've had dill flavored chips before, they're actually really good.

Yesss, they're so good! I haven't had them in awhile, though.
MonarC 01-08-2009, 11:12 PM Me either im putting them on my grocery list. :D
Jude The Obscure 01-08-2009, 11:48 PM I actually like both dill and sweet, but try to limit my intake no matter what. I don't like "hot" pickles however. Despite my reputation as the pepper bro!
MonarC 01-08-2009, 11:50 PM I've never had a hot pickle. Humm. :D
Jude The Obscure 01-09-2009, 12:06 AM ^How about Kool Aid Pickles? it's another Southern thang.. (and no I've never had one--sounds interesting).
Now, I've had fried pickles--those are good! (but so baaaaaaaaaaaaaad).
MonarC 01-09-2009, 12:13 AM Im from the sounth but I've never heard of this "Koolaid Pickle". I have tried fried pickles. Their ok, I prefer my pickles really cold instead of hot. :p

Those were so good. I'm bummed that I can't find them anymore.:( I love dill pickles. I was so happy when Vlassic started making dill pickle relish I love adding it to tunafish sandwiches. This thread is making me hungry.

Me, too!!
Sharop 01-09-2009, 10:11 AM I prefer dill pickles to sweet pickles. The first time I tried a sweet pickle I didn't like it but if I put them in a sandwich with a lot of sauce, I think they're okay.
MonarC 01-09-2009, 10:35 AM Making a pickle sweet is like that bacon chocolate bar some things just dont go well together. :p

Bacon chocolate actually sounds to me like it could be quite nice. I put honey on bacon, I think that tastes nice.
MonarC 01-09-2009, 10:55 AM Yeah when I eat pancakes and bacon on the side the bacon gets a little syrup on it and it taste pretty good. I don't know about chocolate and bacon though. :D
Holly 01-09-2009, 11:02 AM I think Sweet Pickles are good..... I like Dill Pickles too
MonarC 01-09-2009, 01:22 PM I remember they use to sell pickles at school and I would love to get them. :D

robyrob 01-09-2009, 05:05 PM i feel inclined to mention that sometimes I will refer to Robyn as "Sweet Pickles".
I should also mention that she really hates it.
MonarC 01-09-2009, 05:43 PM That's cute. :D

We should get TJ to make a dancing pickle smiley.
TripperFan 01-10-2009, 04:53 AM I rarely crave dill pickles anymore but LOVE and always have, sweet mixed pickles. I also love "sandwich" pickles and especially gerkins (the most expensive of all). I find dill tends to overpower the taste of other things too much.
That's why I've always been surprised that dill pickle potato chips aren't available in the U.S. like they are here. I would have thought they'd be just as popular or moreso. Now they're good with a sandwich or hotdog for sure!

they do have Dill Pickle chips in the states, they are just harder to find - I've actually even seen Ketchup chips in a couple of stores here.

That's pretty good he just needs a few bumps on his body.

OK, Ardis, that just sounds dirty. ;)
MonarC 01-10-2009, 12:11 PM  It just looks like a green bananna.
catlover79 01-10-2009, 12:33 PM  It just looks like a green bananna.
I think it is a banana, just colored green.
MonarC 01-10-2009, 12:55 PM Exactly, so if he just had a few more bumps and looked a little more rounded he would be a nice dancing pickle.:D
Jude The Obscure 01-11-2009, 12:04 PM Now do you notice the difference between dill pickle flavor chips and salt & vinegar chips? I do...
MonarC 01-11-2009, 12:42 PM Yeah I can. Those are good too.

catlover79 01-11-2009, 03:39 PM I LOVE s&v chips - the best is the Kettle brand.
TripperFan 01-11-2009, 04:18 PM they do have Dill Pickle chips in the states, they are just harder to find - I've actually even seen Ketchup chips in a couple of stores here.
Do they now? I heard they didn't (but this goes back maybe 3 years now). Could be they're in selective states or something. I think I did hear of them showing up on the West Coast or something. I'd actually eat ketchup chips over the dill pickle ones.
I know I've seen dill pickle flavouring for popcorn too. I'll stick with salt and butter! ;)
MonarC 01-11-2009, 04:49 PM We have dill pickle chips here in Texas. Thank goodness. :p
TripperFan 01-11-2009, 04:50 PM We have dill pickle chips here in Texas. Thank goodness. :p
Funny - that's one of the states I thought they didn't have them in since I have several friends and family members there. (We used to mail each other stuff - I'd send them chips and they'd send me up oyster crackers). lol
MonarC 01-12-2009, 10:52 AM Well they are hard to find the only place I have been able to find them now is at HEB grocery. They use to sell them at Walmart but I can never find them there anymore.
Jude The Obscure 01-12-2009, 11:14 AM We have a regional brand called Zapp's--kettle cooked type chips--so many varieties, but at my store we carry the Cajun Dill, as well as the Salt & Vinegar. I eat them only as a special treat. I normally stick to the regular because it has low sodium for a chip.
MonarC 01-12-2009, 11:48 AM Yeah that is true they have so much sodium. I need a whole bucket of water to wash them down with. I also love the jalapeno chips.
Jude The Obscure 01-13-2009, 03:31 PM thankfully, with my meds, I have my thirst level under control. Just a year ago, it was to the point, no matter how much I drank, I could never get enough liquid--water, soda, etc. That of course, resulted in mucho visits to the restroom!
Zoneboy 01-13-2009, 04:01 PM  It just looks like a green bananna.
According to Google it's a dancing pickle so laugh at them not me. With my eyesight, I can't tell much difference. :( It could be a banana pickle (http://www.karenscountrykitchen.com/recipes/pickle_recipes/banana_pickles_recipe.htm)

catlover79 01-13-2009, 05:48 PM I love the Bewitched episode where Darrin is zapped by Endora into thinking he's pregnant. He gets cravings and yells (in the middle of a business meeting) "I DEMAND your pickle!!" Dick York's delivery and facial expression were priceless.
