I've been renting the DVD sets from Netflix and I'm up to season 7. The bitter fight for control of Ewing Oil between Bobby and J.R. has just ended.
I've liked pretty much all the story lines except:
I don't care for the Bobby/Pam/Mark Graison story line at all, and wished they hadn't done it. Firstly, Bobby and Pam's relationship should have been off-limits for serious problems. The Knot's Landing cast was smart enough to realize one relationship (Mack and Karen's) had to be stable amid the craziness, and fought hard for this. Secondly, I'm sure the actor who was cast to play "Mark Graison" was probably cast to be the "attractive leading man" type, but IMO he fails miserably all around. The character is totally unlikable, and that unattractive bush he calls a mustache makes him pretty hard to look at.
IMO, The whole thing about Cliff Barnes' mommy buying him an oil company just reeks. I think the producers wanted to level the playing field between Cliff and J.R. so they concocted this ridiculous storyline. Then Pam joins the company, too. It reeks. Cliff is just so pathetic and whiny in everything he says or does, you just can't wait for the next time JR crushes him like a bug. But it is fun to watch him willingly make a living out of being J.R's victim, as if he lives for it.
And I miss the family being all together.
