View Full Version : Cases with Hitchiking
Stack>Farina 01-03-2009, 10:00 PM Lets see how many we can come up with:
-Phillip Fraser
-Dorothy Donovan
-Swedish Girls
I know there are more, but I forget
I remembered this one where an older fellow went cross country with his dogs to see his daughter. He shows up drunk and with a strange guy who none of them had seen before. The man turned up dead soon after, and his truck was involved in an hit and run.
crystaldawn 01-03-2009, 10:53 PM The man who murdered Bill Henderson later picked up a few hitchhikers (in Bill's truck) who later became suspicious of him and called the police.

I remember that one! Were they ever caught?
Dislimb 01-04-2009, 01:50 AM Bobbie Oberholtzer and Annette Schnee were both murdered while hitchhiking.
GavinD80 01-04-2009, 02:31 AM In the Swedish hitchhikers case, they did find the person they were looking for but at nothing on who the guy was or if he had been charged.
lilmissd 01-05-2009, 01:21 AM The Orange Sock murders in Breckinridge Colorado in the early 80's was a hitchhiking case as well!
Zoe F 01-05-2009, 01:57 AM The 1987 suicide of an unidentified woman in Dana Point, California. She was believed to have been hitchhiking through the state.

Yes someone was arrested for the murder of Bill Henderson. His name is Lawrence Tutt. Here's a thread with some more info:

MegtheEgg86 01-06-2009, 04:02 PM Bernice Coutermanche became a victim of the NH serial killer while hitchhiking.
It seems there's a lot of hitchhiking in UM even when the individuals involved don't become victims because of that particular action---especially in mental illness/amnesia cases:
Rogest Cain
Patricia Meehan
Gail Delano (in a very broad sense)
Maria Armstrong? (Didn't she hitchhike out of the Indian reservation she had been wandering around?)
UM Zealot 01-06-2009, 05:11 PM Lake Panasofkee Girl was discovered by hitchhikers.
nohwheregirl 01-06-2009, 08:39 PM The Grateful Dead fan "Jason" Doe was thought to be hitchhiking when he was killed in a car accident. Poor kid.
Mr. Fuji 01-06-2009, 10:36 PM Don't know if we can actually "count" this one, but technically the guy Charles Holden gave a ride to was hitchhiking, since he was out asking for rides from strangers.
Yeah, I think watching UM has made me terrified to death of ever picking up a hitchhiker. I'm a big guy, strong, physically fit, know how to defend myself, yet I wouldn't do it in a million years

I said that two posts before yours.
synthisislab 01-17-2009, 03:34 AM What about the John Cheek case?
synthisislab 01-17-2009, 03:37 AM Or the case of the man hitching a ride on an airplane. That would be more like hitchflying though.

Oh man, I know it is probably wrong, but I totally laughed at "hitchflying".

Those guys deserve massive, massive props. The guy that gave them a ride scared them, they got out and right away called the cops.
