View Full Version : The Patriots have decided to Francise Matt Cassel
TVFactFan 01-03-2009, 01:00 AM Found out on ESPN and on TV reports that the Pats will put the Franchise Tag on Cassel because they feel he is an asset to the organization.
Can't I'm surprised after he led the Pats to 11 wins. No way was they going to let him go and not sure if Brady will be in full form in 2009
EricIdlefan 01-03-2009, 01:22 AM Yeah but when Brady returns back to full form? What will happen there?! Hummmmmmmm!!

They will have QB insurance. Not too many teams have a good Starting QB and back up.
The only team I remember in this situation was the 91 niners with joe Montana and Steve Young
Big C 01-03-2009, 10:43 AM You need a good backkup QB.
Look at the Steelers- when Roethlisberger got hurt in the Monday Night game in Washington, Leftwich filled in nicely.
Also, look at the Seahawks- Hasslebeck got hurt and Seneca Wallace did a nice job filling in (You-know-who can attest to that)
Contrast that with the Cowboys and Bengals, whose seasons turned costly without Romo and Palmer.

The Cowboys have never put effort into finding a solid backup. Even when Kurt Warner was availavle 3 years ago they never went after him.
Brian Damage 01-03-2009, 12:53 PM Actually, that is bad news for Tom Brady. There were rumors going around that Brady's knee is in a lot worse shape than the Patriots are letting on. Rumors are that Brady could miss half of the 2009 season as well.

Well the franchise Tag makes even more sense now. People on the Dallas Board was hoping Cassel came there and I was like-"HE WANTS TO START" not backup a professional d*ckhead like Tony Romo-lol

I am sure Matt Cassel is pissed about this.
TVFactFan 01-03-2009, 01:12 PM I am sure Matt Cassel is pissed about this.
I don't think so since he will get $14 million bones-lol

i am sure he can live with it... He will recieve 14 million bucks next year for being the franchise player... thats if he starts or is a back up:lol:

I know these teams were not happy to hear that
Chicago
Tampa Bay
Minnesota
Jets
Waterston_Fan 01-03-2009, 08:22 PM Well, at least they have a good back up if they need it.

Yeah. The Bears, his hometown team as well & Minnesota will be looking at Donovan next year, as a QB possibility. Not that it could or will happen, I am just saying it and putting it into perspective. I don't think it will. Even if he was unhappy with the Eagles, come off-season/into next season, and DESPERATELY wanted to be traded, and nothing else (which I doubt will all happen), I think the Eagles wouldn't let him sign or wouldn't trade him to any NFC team. Yeah, it's not an NFC East team in the Giants, Cowboys or Redskins, but I think they would (want to) be smart about it & trade him to a non-conference team. The Redskins might be looking at him cause Jason Campbell hasn't fully blossomed yet. Anyways, Matt Cassell should be fine with whatever role he is given or ends up having next season lol- whether starter or backup to Brady, with making over 14 million as an NFL player!
GARFIELDKOOL 01-03-2009, 09:17 PM The question is.....will Tom Brady be ready at the start of the 2009 season?
Chelsea 01-03-2009, 10:12 PM One thing not mentioned: With the pay raise stipulated by the use of the franchise option - Cassel will be making more next season than Brady.

You are so right, he may not be ready to go in sept

That's the annoying thing though. It just seems to quiet or conflicting.
I remember when Bledsoe went down in 2000 and it was almost as if the Patriots didn't give a damn about his health as they wouldn't talk about his injury.
Uh, the guy nearly died.. come on!!
Even when Brady comes back, he probably won't ever be the same again.
Waterston_Fan 01-04-2009, 12:29 PM Even when Brady comes back, he probably won't ever be the same again.
No, probably not. Especially after he went to his own doctor instead of going to the team's doctor.
Brian Damage 01-04-2009, 01:01 PM That's true, because look what happened to Carson Palmer of the Bengals after his serious knee injury. He was never the same either.
bandito 01-04-2009, 01:31 PM That's true, because look what happened to Carson Palmer of the Bengals after his serious knee injury. He was never the same either.Brady will still be good, but the team around him is getting OLD.
Wreckless 01-04-2009, 01:55 PM Hey, they still have Wes Welker, Randy Moss and other guys. I think it's their defense that's getting old lol. Rodney Harrison is like 100 years old himself. Mike Vrabel, Tedy Bruschi.
GARFIELDKOOL 01-04-2009, 02:08 PM Brady will still be good, but the team around him is getting OLD.
That's what did them in in the SB. Those old linemen were getting pushed around like crazy.
Wreckless 01-04-2009, 02:18 PM Speaking of their o line, they look like lumberjacks lol especially Matt Light
btw, I went to school with a kid named Matt Light
