I recently bought the entire series on DVD and Three's Company is unique in the fact that it had so many cast changes over the years with Jack, Janet, and Larry being the only characters on throughout the series entire run. I think the fact that Chrissy was replaced with Cindy, and then Terri, and the Ropers with Mr. Furley all brought something new to the series and it didn't get stale.
I really can't imagine how the series could have lasted so long with the same cast it started with in 1977. I found the show much less annoying without Chrissy and funnier with Cindy. I also thought Mr. Furley brought more comedy to the show than the Ropers did.
I'll never understand why Suzanne Somers' husband thought she was worth so much money in 1980. I can understand wanting a pay raise but her demands were outrageous and to me the Chrissy character was not central to the show. Her husband's pitch that Suzanne should play Jack's new love interest on Three's a Crowd was also ridiculous. You often wonder how the series would have turned out if Suzanne hadn't had these disputes.
