NASSAU (Reuters) - The teenage son of actor John Travolta died suddenly on Friday during a family vacation in the Bahamas, according to the family's lawyer.

Jett Travolta, 16, suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island, attorney Michael Ossi said.

Attempts were made to revive him, but he died at the scene, Ossi said.

Jett, who had a history of seizures, was the eldest child of Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston. They also have a daughter, Ella Blue, who was born in 2000.

I've felt physically sick since I read this about an hour ago. I love John Travolta. He and his wife Kelly have to be of their minds with grief. Whatever with Scientology. I'm just glad that they have a strong faith to get them through this loss. There are no words.

Medical Expert on Jett Travolta: Seizures Can Kill

In light of Monday's autopsy finding that Jett Travolta, the 16-year-old son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, died of a seizure, a medical expert tells E! News that seizures can cause death, even when the person who suffers one is taking medication to manage them.

"You can die during a seizure because of some manifestations in the brain," says retired forensic pathologist and former Detroit-area medical examiner Dr. Werner Spitz.

"It is not unusual that people die from a seizure disorder where the seizure disorder is known...If he has a known seizure disorder documented by medical records and he was treated as such, then that is almost a given."

"But you might not find an absolute cause of death when seizures are the cause," Spitz added. "The absolute cause would take at least two weeks so everything can be tested."

I have a cousin the same age as Jett and he's suffered from seizures almost all his life. I don't know if he and Jett have the same condition or not but he's had some close calls. One of his worst happened just a few weeks ago and luckily the paramedics were able to revive him.
