View Full Version : Ever have a famous/semi-famous person in your house??
Brad Russ 12-27-2008, 08:16 AM I did last night from about 11:00 pm, to 2:00 am. My friend Bret has a new girlfriend named Melanie Utvick, who has been in a few tv shows including Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Criminal Minds, and a few others. She was really cool, and down to earth. Earlier in the day I got to meet my friend Preston's nephew who is a pro baseball player named Todd Linden, so it was a pretty big day for me yesterday. It's not everyday that a kid from Oregon has two famous people in his neighborhood in one day. lol! Anyway, that was the only semi-famous person I've actually had in my house. There's a link to her bio below. Have any of you ever had any famous people in your house?? If so, who were they, and what were they famous for?

MrCleveland 12-27-2008, 12:54 PM Supposedly, I'm related to Nelson A. Miles

And I have a cousin who performs at the Carousel in Akron and her husband directs at Tri-C West.
catlover79 12-27-2008, 01:27 PM Nope, I never have (that I'm aware of).
Doodyville10019 12-27-2008, 04:25 PM I personally didn't but my husband had PLENTY! First of all, his father is related to Pierre Berton (our Canadian SO friends know who he is) - he visited my father-in-law and his family on many occasions. My husband went (as a kid) to see him several times.
Secondly, my mother-in-law was a very talented hair stylist and make-up artist for many performers who entertained at various Chicago hotels from the '50s through the late '70s. She also did quite a few VIPs as well. Several of them she got to know on a personal basis, and they visited the house when my husband was growing up and gave my husband and his brother gifts as extra thanks-yous for her good work and her friendship. Sammy Davis, Jr. dropped money for the kids on their front lawn; Jackie Gleason gave each of them a bicycle, and Barbara Eden gave each of them one of the "backup" bottles from the set of I Dream of Jeannie. The Jeannie bottle remains one of my husband's fondest treasures.

Wow, that's really cool!! You're husband and mother in law must have alot of great stories to tell, having had such amazing, and talented people in their homes. Must have been a pretty cool childhood for your husband!! :)

Yup, my mother-in-law told me these stories many times over (and even more) from her career in that field. She met so many entertainers and VIPs during those years, and she told me about many of them and her relationship with each, whether it was for just a makeup/hair job or going out to dinner with one. But, all the fun had to end when my mother-in-law was forced to quit after she was diagnosed with silicosis, a lung ailment caused by years of breathing in the particles in silicone-based makeup that was used in show business back then. She lived with it and lived a very fulfilled life until November of 2007, when she passed away.

Yes, I think so.

Thanks - I was thinking, "Boy, she looks familiar!"
I haven't, but my aunt used to be a personal assistant to some opera stars in New York. She also told me one, really impressive story. She said one time she was at a friend's house for a party that was held on the back patio. She went inside and said there was this really pretty girl who was too shy to come outside. My aunt said she sat down and talked to her for about ten minutes then went back outside to the party. She found out later from the hostess that the houseguest (the girl my aunt had talked to) was Marilyn Monroe. I am not kidding! She said she never would have recognized her. She didn't look all glam or anything, she just looked like a sweet kid who was having a tough time. She treasures that memory.
No, but I'm trying to get Joyce DeWitt over here. :D
So you haven't gotten Dawn Welles to marry you yet? ;) Don't give up!

She is single so you never know!
Maybe I'll tell her I own a limo. That may help. ;)

Berton was my all-time favorite historian and author; I wish I'd met him before his death a few years ago; what wonderful talks about Canadian history we could have had! (Ironically, I found out that he regularly had frequented a pub just a half hour away [in the next town], just days before his death!)
Mikado 12-29-2008, 08:35 PM The closest that we've ever had in the house was my Aunt Jeanne who sometimes babysat Paul Anka, when he was a kid.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 12-29-2008, 10:33 PM I never had anyone famous stay at my house, but a friend of mine had the band Lovin' Spoonful stayed at her house one time. If I can remember the story correctly, they were doing a show near her house and for some reason wherever they were supposed to stay fell threw and my friend knew somebody who worked for the venue or wherever they were playing at. I guess my friend said she'd let them stay (or maybe they asked her?) and so they did! She lives in a pretty small town so I think they were doing a show probably at a county fair or a casino near by. That's how it usually is in rural areas!
