I remember watching this episode on A&E about a blonde teenager suspected of a rape in either the 70s or 80s, whose body was found near a tree or forest

Is this the kid who was about 16, he was a petty criminal at the time, then escalated to rape.

His buddies told him that they had a big stash of pot buried out in the woods and convinced him to get in the car and drive up to the forest with them. they walked him out to the woods and shot him.

If I remember correctly, the first shot didn't kill him. He ran off through the woods but his friends were able to convince him that the gun discharging was an accident, so he came back to them. That's when they took better aim, and killed him.

This was mid 1970s, the kid had blonde hair, about chin length. I think his name was Benny something....
