I would personally call that playing favorites. I mean, if the family let all the children open gifts early like during Christmas eve at the same time, that would seem more fair. But, if it's just the one child being treated well like that, it's not fair to the other kids. Hope this opinion helps you out. :)

But it isn't right to play favorites. I think it happens a lot though, whether it's the oldest in the family or the youngest.

I've seen the emotional toll that it takes on children when parents or grandparents play favorites. It's terrible. I've held my adult stepdaughter in my arms, when she's crying over the fact that her grandmother adores her sister, while ignores her. It happened thoughout her entire life.
I blame the parents when grandparents do it. If I had kids, and I saw that a grandparent was favoring one of my children, I wouldn't allow it. I know of one case where there were four children. The grandparents favored the older two kids. They would actually take them for the entire summer. They had a fantastic yard with a pool. They would go on day trips and basically spoil the older two, while snubbing the younger two. I blame the parents for allowing this to happen. The damage that it has caused, even today, is enormous.
