View Full Version : TPIR: To Be Canceled?
The Great One 12-17-2008, 04:16 PM Hey mriggles! Is it true? I've heard comments being made by reliable insider sources that CBS plans on canceling TPIR by the end of the next season due to the consistently low ratings since Drew took over being the host of the show.

There is absolutely no truth to that rumor at this time, although if things keep going the way they are going, rumors might turn into fact. The show is safe for now.

How bad are the ratings Mike?
Jude The Obscure 12-18-2008, 01:56 AM Isn't the View now beating it on a fairly regular basis? :(
Scoobiedoo30 12-18-2008, 02:45 PM How Low is The Price is Right Ratings.
Heidi Dawn 12-18-2008, 03:29 PM The ratings aren't as terrible as some people made it out to be. TPIR isn't falling too far behind The View (it's #1), #2 to be exact in the 18-49 range for female viewers. So, in fact, TPIR is in no danger of cancellation.

Sadly, it is indeed.
NASHMAN 12-18-2008, 05:39 PM The ratings for TPIR aren't so terrible, but they are enough to cause a concern. Personally, Drew's not a bad host but the chemistry between the game and him just don't feel that great. He seems to be rushing too quickly when a contestant tries to see whether he wins or not, and that Allakazam of his seems like a gimme. Bob really showed his strength and enthusiasm when it came down to the last few moments before revealing the actual price. I personally want the show to continue, but in this form, it seems that it will only take a matter of time before the show ends it's run.
TVFactFan 12-18-2008, 11:14 PM Can't I say I'm surprised
mriggles 12-19-2008, 04:09 PM How bad are the ratings Mike?
Not as bad as some people are making it out to be. It is still doing well in alot of the major ratings categories. Overall on average it is number 2 behind the view, but there hasn't been much fall off this year & the show is still a money maker for CBS... I don't know where the rumors of the show getting cancelled are coming from, but the show is safe for now
The Great One 12-23-2008, 05:17 PM The comments I heard came from experts in the areas of daytime television programming practices and the revenues that are generated. TPIR is indeed in 2nd place with The View in 1st place but the ratings for daytime television overall have been much lower in recent years than before. Even the daytime version of Deal or No Deal isn't doing as well as expected and there has been talk about the show possibly not lasting past the first season. I'm not the expert but I do respect where the information is coming from because the analyzing of daytime programming practices and the profits that are generated is what these people do for a living. They even teach classes where these issues are discussed.
ThomasE 12-23-2008, 08:32 PM I would not make such a big deal about it. If it is doing somewhat ok in the ratings, I would not make a big issue out of it yet.
Mikado 12-24-2008, 12:42 AM Drew is terrible as the host, you get the impression he's not really "into" the game
MrCleveland 12-24-2008, 12:50 PM Thank God.
Drew Carey is kind of a good host.

That's interesting info my friend...thank you for posting it. Everything that i can gather from my 2 friends within cbs say the show is safe & the show is still a money maker for the network & thats the bottom line.. PRICE IS RIGHT = SAFE FOR NOW

he sure does have a whole bunch of terrible moments
JulieSomoski 12-26-2008, 04:21 PM Do you have any exact ratings for us, mriggles?
I think Drew is doing fine at host. I personally, I find the show to be a lot more upbeat and fun with Drew doing. Bob was a fantastic host, no one can deny that, but he was getting old, and quite frankly, boring. The show needed a younger blood, and Drew is definitely bringing that.
While he does have his mistakes, so did Bob. I think people just need to give him a chance. Let's just hope the show can go on for many more years!
howierules86 12-26-2008, 04:58 PM Well said, Julie! I think Drew Carey's a great guy who deserves to host TPIR for as long as he can!

No problem! I'm just trying to contribute to the information pool here. I don't want to see TPIR canceled because I love watching the show but I will be sad if it does happen. Anyways, the information that you come up with is always greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to any additional "inside scoop" news when you're able to share it on Sitcoms Online.
Mr. Morrison86 12-26-2008, 06:57 PM I'm glad the show is safe, even though we had weird showcases, weird lineups,I truly beileve that The Price is Right will be better in weeks and months to come. The Shows i have watch this week were awesome and Drew was on top of his game. That's Drew Carey I had been looking for since the end of season 36. Oh,Yeah give Adam time with the lineups he's no roger, but he's knows what he's doing out there. Mike, you do bring very good point, that The Price is Right still money maker for the eye network. I do see a season 38 in the works. One more thing,I will be honest with you,I almost gave up on TPIR,but I stood in there kept watching.
catlover79 12-26-2008, 07:25 PM Drew's had his moments. I remember the time some guy won a set of luggage and he ran up and gave Drew an enormous bear hug when he came up to play the pricing game.

I will watch the show no matter what, but something about this season has made the show go from the must see tv category like it has been forever for me to the I will watch it later or tomorrow category. I still watch every single show & always will, but that perfect showcase reveal a couple of weeks back did not sit well with me at all
storrs19 12-27-2008, 01:17 PM I'm 37 and have watched this show since I was about 5 years old but after two weeks of Drew Carey I just couldn't take it. Nothing against Drew but he just doesn't seemed suited to this show. I guess it also has to do with being so used to Bob Barker on there for as long as I can remember.

At the moment I do not, but I will get them for you... I have a rough idea but I want to wait & see how the show did in december & when I get those ratings I will pass it on to you...

It's funny you mention that, because I couldn't agree with you more - I thought Drew was fantastic this week with the Christmas episodes. I actually think he was so on top of his game this week that it was the best I've seem of him as host yet. He just seemed really happy to be there and really into the games last week.
And mriggles, whenever you get those ratings, I'd be happy to see them! I've heard things about the ratings all season, but haven't seen any exact ones. I'd like to see just how much The View is beating TPIR :D
