It's been this way for years. There will ALWAYS be security holes in Internet Explorer, where do you think people get all the adware from?

this is a very real threat that should not be taken lightly - no antispyware or antivirus program can fix this, and just visiting any website with this code in it could infect your computer.

...and while I agree that IE always has security holes and always will, this is a pretty big one.

just to restate this - there is NO version of Internet Explorer that is safe, even the newest versions ALL have this critical flaw for which there is no patch coming in the near future (wait about a month or so - I predict they'll just sneak it in with the regular update on January 6th)


in the meantime, you could try out any of several other FREE browsers:

Plus, as soon as I read this last night, I contacted my ex (a director of IT for a large North American company). He laughed and told me to calm down. That like you guys have said, it's always been this way, his entire company uses Explorer and that there was no need to change. That Microsoft was coming out with a patch soon and that's why the news leaked.

He say's it's another chicken little thing for this guy to be saying change your browser asap - that, or he works for a competitor and wants people to change over before Microsoft comes out with the patch.

I'm staying put. But thanks for the posting. It did make me run a scan and it did clean it up a bit. :)

its only a problem if you go to an infected site, and while this flaw has been there for quite some time, now that the exploit is widely known it will become more widespread and it will be more likely to become a problem for anyone unpatched.

Microsoft always says they will issue patches ASAP, but that has not always been the case in practice, we'll see how it goes - and I'm not saying you should stop using Internet Explorer, just be aware of this problem.

hey, Thank you I will try them later on when I get home from work. Not sure if I want to download them here at work, because this is not my computer. I read that on the yahoo news things these days are very strange to me......

Well, the reason I changed was because IE was getting so damn slow and it was annoying me.

I had been using Firefox for several years. I liked it until I tried Chrome. It is much faster. As for IE I gave up on that forever!

I haven't used IE in about a year. I have Firefox on my desktop and recently downloaded Google Chrome on my laptop. Chrome is pretty good but it needs a lot of improvements.

For those who still want to use IE.
