View Full Version : In Your Opinion, Did I Do Anything Wrong Or Did I Get Rightfully Banned?

This is not related to SO but another forum which I am a member of; for privacy reasons I don't want to give that info away.

I noticed that there are people like this in almost every forum you are a member of. The very opinionated person who speaks their mind about everything and hurls insults left and right; but when someone replies they go into a crying fit and threaten to "leave the board".

This girl speaks her mind on everything, if she don't like your music she says so, your avatar she says so, your screen name she says so; and so forth. Almost every time someone answers her back or calls her out she makes a "departure thread" where she says she is leaving the forum forever, all of you can go to hell, and that she is being treated unfairly.

Then from a timespan of a couple of days, weeks, or months she decided to come back after other forum members started a "We miss you" thread; saying how she missed everyone and that she is here to stay. This repeats god only knows how many times.

So when this happened again I replied to the thread saying, "See you in a week." and I got a lot of negative feedback saying my comment was uncalled for.

Then about 3 days later the user is back on the board posting so I replied to one of her threads "You aren't really leaving at all. You probably get off on the sympathy you get from your "departure threads" and keep checking the forum." She replied "You're so MEAN and now I am leaving FOREVER!!"

When I tried to log-on I was banned...

I never understood why people use the fake departing threads to gather sympathy from other members. It irked me so I had to respond to it after it happened a ridiculous amount of times.

Well, it was quite an insulting thing to say (although you were most like probably right) but I don't think it was something you should have been banned for, unless you had a history of being rude to members of the forum, which you probably don't.

i think if you confronted her with her behavior listing reasons and incidents why you feel this way about her the way you described it here to us it would have been taken more as constructive criticism than an attack. but i agree about people who do that often, it seems like a ploy for attention seekers.

Perhaps I was a little insulting, but to me what I find insulting is the other members of a forum who give into the attention seekers and defend them left and right over all of their actions. I never understood why people defend flakes like this.

I don't think you should have banned. It sounds like she is the troublemaker, not you. I've dealt with people like her on other message boards. The best way to deal with them really is to ignore them.

Hard to say as there are a few variables. If you been warned about this type of behavior in the past, I'd say they made the right decision. Your second remarks to her were personal, even though that other member sounds like an attention seeking whiner. If this was the first time you did that, I think it was unfair to ban you. Members are usually suspended a few times here before they're banned. At the very least, you should have been warned. I wonder why that girl gets away with those insults and they ban you. It doesn't add up. I agree about the departure threads.

I've heard this saying somewhere, 'When there is no more sympathy given, the begger will stop.":) Which means, when no one feels bad for you, you will grow up and stop begging for sympathy." this should happen to the girl sooner or later (sooner, the better). :)

She deserved it. Sounds like a poorly-ran forum if she gets away with that kind of crap and you call her on it and you get banned.

Retrojunk?
I'm sorry, that forum was mostly made up of attention seekers and it has eroded away from any form of nostalgia whatsoever. That's why I had to leave.

It seems to me that she should be the one banned..... Not the one who is actually right and stands up to her.

I'd log onto that site and put in one post next to hers....TRUTH HURTS, DOESN'T IT? You should NOT have been banned.
