Did your mother tell you to clean your plate?

If so, you'd be a good candidate for the all-you-can eat special at Hayashi Ya.

The Japanese restaurant on Manhattan's West Side imposes a surcharge for wasted and unfinished food.

A chalkboard sign in front of the restaurant advertises all you can eat for $26.95 per person.

But the sign says there's a 30 percent surcharge for wasted or unfinished food.

The manager said the policy has been in effect for about two years.

Shouldn't they be allowed to take unfinished food home? That's what I usually do, unless it's just a couple of bites left or the food was really terrible.

If it cuts down on food being wasted, I think it's a good idea. Wasted food is lost money for the restaurant business as awell as the supermarket business.

that sort of defeats the purpose of an all-you-can-eat buffet - if you could take it all home they'd go broke pretty quick!

anyways, i think its a good idea - it helps keep the price down for those not being greedy idiots.

Wow I wouldn't pay $27 for an all you can eat buffet. The Buffets around here are around $10 and they don't care if I clean my plate. :lol:
