This episode is included on disc 2 on the second season of the show. I find it odd that they would do a show that had nothing to do with the Anderson family. Robert Young introduced this episode saying that the family was on vacation and they were presenting a special episode. Mr. Young played a different character. Anyone know why they did this episode? Good bonus feature at least.

I heard it was a proposed pilot produced by Robert Young. Was it his intention to leave FKB for another series or was he just trying to get another show for the production company on the network?

Just watched it this morning--it is stated that this was removed from syndication in the '80s, so that explains why I never saw it before. I don't see why it is included as a FKB episode--it clearly isn't. If Jim perhaps, had a dream sequence about being in the West, maybe, but this is just so odd. As it is, it plays as one off story and I don't even see how this could have been turned into any kind of a series, despite it being labled a "pilot" on other TV related sources. Wasn't a bad half hour, just seems misplaced.

It was a strange ep in that it was such a departure. But Robert Young was quite good and I know I've seen that school marm before.

The "school marm" may have been Sarah Selby. In Father Knows Best, she played "Miss Thomas" the secretary to Jim Anderson at his insurance office.

...Robert Young did "Stagecoach To Yuma" simply because he wanted to do something "different" (after six years as "Jim Anderson" on radio and TV, who could blame him?). And since he co-owned the series, he did it. However, I've also heard that Scott Paper and/or NBC didn't like the idea of an "anthology" episode on "FATHER KNOWS BEST", insisting it be "worked" into the format. So an opening sequence was filmed where Jim is telling the family a story about an "Old West" ancestor of his- fade into "Stagecoach To Yuma". Since I've never seen the episode, I can't be sure if that sequence was used, or the one where Robert Young (as "Himself") merely introduces the episode....or both!

Antenna TV has aired this episode so it is now included in the syndication package. Its scheduled to air again on Sunday 5/15/11.
