View Full Version : What are some things about you that might surprise others?
Big C 12-08-2008, 04:45 AM Sometimes, we have certain things we like or have quirks or things that are either interesting or make us look different from others.
What are some things about yourself that might be surprising for other people to find out?
I'll start.
Most people might not know this, but i have a love for Middle Eastern/Persian music.
Hollow 12-08-2008, 05:31 AM i love singing classical music/opera. anyone who knows me well is very aware of this and constantly reminded of it, but due to the way i dress, those who don't know me are often surprised to learn that i even like any kind of music besides metal.
littlebelle 12-08-2008, 03:59 PM I still have stuffed animals that I sleep with every night. There's Pooh Bear, Piglet, Tigger, Pluto, Minnie Mouse, an orange cat named Hobbes, a teddy bear and a stuffed baby doll named Felicia (pronounced fa-lee-cee-a) that I've had ever since I was born.
Don't make fun of me ;)

I do too. Right now there are 7 on my bed, and there are several more in the back bedroom because they won't fit in here.
Yeah, I'm 29 and sleep with stuffed animals. :p
Janice 12-08-2008, 10:15 PM I'm very liberal in my thinking on many issues.
I was quite the partier before I met my husband.
I worry a lot that my husband is going to die. It's my biggest fear.
I'm generous to a fault, and I mean, to a fault. I've been taken advantage of and betrayed by those I thought loved me.
I was born with an intense love of animals. If I was filthy rich, that would be my mission, to help animals. I'd help others, but animals the most.

haha same, I sleep with my stuffed doggy <3
Most people in real life have no idea how depressed I am because I'm wicked good at hiding it because I feel like showing my misery in itself brings attention to myself, and I don't want any. Mostly I'm wicked goofy and keep a lot of my problems to myself, so only close friends know...and even they don't know a lot of the family problems I faced as a kid.

That is so sweet. I agree animals are so special. I always donate as much as I can to some kind of animal charity. I also shop at the Humane society thrift shop. They have great stuff.

No wonder we get along! I could have written this myself! (although lately, I'd have to change it to "I worry a lot that I'm gonna kill my husband....") Just kiddin' - couldn't resist. ;)

I could say the same for myself.

Thanks. :) I'm not severely depressed or anything, but I definitely am somewhat. Sometimes it's worse than others.
Theda Bara 12-09-2008, 01:56 AM I have a difficult time having good eye contact with people; believe or not, I am actually very shy.
I have this amazing knack by telling what year a television show or a movie was made, by just observing the fashions. And, I do not mean by decade, I mean, specificly by year.
I have ADD, and have a hell of a time trying to concentrate on anything subject for any length of time; but, I have an above average I.Q.
I am one, if not, one of the worse spellers on the planet; and I am also quite lazy about my grammar, too (as you can probably tell).
Though, I am shy, I do have a wild streak.
When I was younger I was asked to pose for Playboy, I declined.
I probably had about 20 jobs in my lifetime; ranging from being a receptionist to working at a fast food restaurant to being a stripper.
One of my many goals in life is to open my own daycare center; though, I do love children, I do not have any desire to becoming a mother.
My life has been interesting. I have seen and done a lot of crazy things.
I have an addictive personality.
I am the only person that perfers Los Angeles over San Diego.
I am obsessed with women's fashions of the 1970s and I am also obsessed on how a particular band looks like, especially with their hair.
I have the strangest tastes in foods. I adore sushi and escargot; but, I am not crazy about sweets or cheeses (go figure).
It does not take me much to be happy, I am very easy to please.
catlover79 12-09-2008, 02:02 AM Gee, I don't know what to say - I'm an open book.
LuLu Rogers 12-09-2008, 02:42 AM I claim to be straight and I LOVE men, but sometimes I find myself very attracted to other women.
Yooch 12-09-2008, 03:02 AM I love movies, especially old ones, but will rarely sit down to watch one. I just like to have them on while I'm doing other things, (cleaning my den, or whatever.
On a few 'hot-button' political issues, I'm as conservative, even more so than some Republicans, but on most things I'm a liberal Democrat.
I used to smoke cigarettes, but quit a long time ago (and glad I did). I 'fell off the wagon' a few times, like Obama--but finally quit for good.
I've always been a pretty good speller. (Sorry, Tara) It just comes natural to me.
Like Tara, though, I think Los Angeles rules. I used to visit my grandmother and cousins there when I was a little kid. I loved the place, and still do. Even though it's in my state, I don't get there very much, 'cause it's pretty far from where I live
When I was a kid, I was an avid baseball fan; I knew every player on the Yankees' stats, same for the original Mets: batting avgs, era's, positions, numbers. In the early 1960's, I think I saw every game both teams played, on TV, or listened to them on the radio. My brother and I would imitate batting stances of our favorite players. As an adult, I rarely follow baseball anymore, though I'm a nominal Oakland A's fan.
I played Little League baseball for two years (2nd Base). I ran track for two years in high school (Mile), ran cross-country my senior year and played freshman football.
I was in a 'garage band' for two years in high school--sophomore and junior year. I played rhythm guitar. I sang back up mostly but (don't laugh too hard), but lead on 'Satisfaction' and 'Wild Thing'. We did songs by the Beatles, Stones, Herman's Hermits, and other pop groups of the time. We did a few local gigs: a few school and church-basement dances, for very little pay, or no pay (it was for the 'publicity' they said. Yeah, and we believed them! )
We were good students and didn't do drugs. (Our members all ended up going to college--UC. Berkeley, Catholic U. Boston College, MIT and San Diego State)
Mostly though, I like the simple things in life. My faith means much to me. And I enjoy ushering in church on a regular basis.
(There is so much to say, but these are just a few things that may surprise you about me.)

That picture just melts the heart, and we know it's not staged either. The markings on that cat are beautiful.
MonarC 12-09-2008, 09:08 AM Yeah i thought it was adorable too.:D
Doodyville10019 12-09-2008, 05:11 PM I listen to metal music and enjoy hard alternative rock.

littlebelle 12-11-2008, 03:20 PM I have very low self-esteem, I constantly always think I'm fat and ugly. I've always felt like I had to try hard to make myself "desirable". I'm only mentioning this now because the other day I posted a picture of my self on IMDB for something and I had this one user reply back saying I was ugly and that people lie to me all the time when they say I'm pretty- I know that sounds stupid but it really hurt me. People like that truly make me feel like I am unattractive.
It's not only about looks, I always feel like I'm dumb and can't do anything. I always doubt my ability. Sometimes I think that's why I'm hostile towards others- I have to cover up for my own weaknesses.

Usually insecure people don't post their picture on the internet. Some people post their picture, say they think they're ugly, then sit back and wait for the compliments. It's called fishing for compliments.

I posted a picture of myself to ask if I looked like a certain celebrity... NOT to "fish" for compliments. It's not like I posted a picture of myself saying I was ugly and hoping to get feedback, that was not my intention. So don't try to tell me I'm not insecure about my self. I thought I could be real for a second, and let people know my inner struggles, but instead it seemed to cause you to make false accusations about me. I'm really suprised Janice.

I was being real too. I didn't say that's what you were doing, just that's what often happens. I've seen it time and time again on the internet. What actress do you think you look like?
TripperFan 12-11-2008, 04:42 PM I'm shy around pretty woman
Well you shouldn't be! You're a hottie with a hilarious personality.
Pretty women are just the same as the others (although I have to admit, they can be bitchier which can intimidate guys).

I think all of us are worse critics. I know I am. But, you should not take what that person said to you to heart; there are a lot of people on the internet, who get off by calling other people horrible names and putting them down. Do not take it personally. I have read online what people have said about the most beautiful people in the world, calling them ugly, fat and other terrible names. Consider the source and take as a grain of salt. I have seen your pictures, and you are very, very pretty
littlebelle 12-11-2008, 05:08 PM Thanks guys :) and I'm sorry Janice for lashing out at you. I was just frustrated and was looking for support, and misunderstood what you said.
dawsongirl 12-11-2008, 05:36 PM I have an extreme fear of failure, which stems from my extreme perfectionism. I beat myself up at work all the time for "failing" at something, despite no one else saying I failed.

LOL - actually I used to be like that when I was younger. I just convinced myself that usually even great looking people have some sort of insecurity themselves so what the hell - just go for it. I've had too many "what if's" to think back on. Lifes's short - you'll never know unless you try and if she does end up thinking less of you - then she's a bitch anyway so best you find out right off the bat!
so elektrikkxx 12-11-2008, 10:42 PM People who only know me online are often surprised when I tell them certain things and among those are;
-my age. I'm fifteen. Although when I first signed up here I said I was a year older than I really am, because I didn't want people treating me differently because I was so young. And 12 sounded a little better than 11 at the time I thought.
-I am only 5'6, and 118 pounds.
-My voice is very much the stereotypical "gay" voice.
-People who meet me now are surprised to see pictures of what I looked like in the beginning and middle of the year; dark, DARK eyeliner, beaded bracelets all the way up both my arms, and pants tighter than most girls wear.
-People who meet me now find it hard to believe I'm bi from looking at me.
Personality traits/opinions/other things that surprise people;
-the fact that I have never had sex and at the moment am not interested in it
-most of the music I listen to is either in Portuguese or Spanish, and I LOVE Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and Destiny's Child.
-I hate screamo music. HATE IT.
-I act much more confident online than in person; In real life I'm very shy, reserved, and quiet and don't bother anyone, yet online I'm this outspoken person who says exactly what I think.

I like a lot of old Mariah Carey. You know, like her butterfly days? I remember my mom had her first album "Mariah Carey" on tape and it was my favorite tape when I was like four, lol. My all time favorites have to be Open Arms, Hero and All In Your Mind.

Same with Dre. Artist's that have worked with him say that he spends FOREVER on one track. That's why he's beats always sound fresh.

I still remember buying her first tape back in 1990-91. People like Ardis and myself, who were preteens then, have literally grown up with Mariah and her music. :D

Yeah, him and Em are the same way, like me. I think all rappers are. Dre made Chauncey Black, an rnb artist on his Aftermath label, re-record a single bar of notes 110 some times, according to Snoop.
MonarC 12-12-2008, 05:16 PM Yeah Mariah is an amazingly talented person. Her music is so touching in many ways. The fact that she has a 'hot bod' also helps. :D Glad to see so many MC fans here. Much love to you all!

I don't think you're fat, and certainly not ugly AT ALL. That guy on IMDB is an a$$hole, f*ck what he said cause it's not true. Don't let people bring you down. You're a smart person. I have had mother****ers putting me down all my life and I'm finally understanding that you gotta be true to yourself, find who your real friends are and don't let people push you around, cause if people know they can, no matter what age, race, or gender, they will keep pushing and pushing you, until you get pissed off and blow. It happens to all of us, so it's all good.

I'm the same way. I'm friends with everybody. But I love to be around good looking women. I don't think and I know I'm not picky cause I look for the inner personality, not just looks, I'm not shallow at all. It's just knowing what you like.
